The European Movement International is deeply saddened by the tragic and ongoing events in the Mediterranean that have led to the deaths of more than 1,500 men, women, and children this year alone. Immediate action is needed to prevent further loss of life and to establish a coordinated response to this crisis.
At its Federal Assembly 2014, the European Movement International adopted a resolution on the reform of electoral law and the rules governing European political parties. As a follow-up to the EMI resolution and the discussion on electoral law reform in AFCO on Tuesday 17 March, a background briefing on Electoral Reform has been prepared which summarises the discussion in the AFCO Committee and gives some background to the role of the Parliament in electoral reform.
