CEEP: Public Services Summit
I am very happy to inform you that the third edition of the Public Services Summit will take place on 28 June 2017, in Brussels, with the confirmed participation of Donald Tusk, President of the European Council, and of Valdis Dombrovskis, European Commission Vice-President for Social Dialogue and the Euro. This Summit will be for us an opportunity to emphasise the key role that employers and providers of public services and services of general interest plays in the discussions on the Future of Europe, and how our members address different areas, such as social dialogue, the provision of public services and SGIs, democracy and accountability.
Now is “no time for business as usual” in Europe, and that is the context in which the Summit will be held. Following the vote of the British to exit the EU, the rise of populist movements, and facing new social challenges, EU leaders launched a major reflection to “re-invent” the EU. Kicked off at the Bratislava Summit in September 2016, that process of reinventing the EU will involve institutions, Member States, social partners and stakeholders. CEEP will place its Public Services Summit in this very context.
The Public Services Summit will also address the issues directly impacting the provision of public services and of services of general interest. As such, CEEP will push further the reflection on the need for a favourable ground for investments to promote public services and ensure jobs and growth creation, going beyond the EU Investment Plan and ensuring that the completion of the EMU creates a policy mix easing the provision of efficient and effective public services.
Social Europe will also be addressed, with the key role of social partners at the heart of the discussion. As social partners, we have a central role to play in developing the social dimension of the EU, especially following the proposal for an EU Pillar of Social Rights and the reflection paper on the future of Social Europe.
Discussing the state of the EU with EU decision-makers, reflecting on the Future of Europe, addressing the role of public services in giving a new breath to the EU project and discussing the contribution of stakeholders to the discussions and initiatives: The Public Services Summit 2017 will make the bridge between the EU, enterprises and citizens at a key moment for our European democracy.
I look forward to seeing you at this occasion.
