Women of Europe Awards

WOMEN OF EUROPE AWARDS: Promoting Women Who Advance The European Project

The WOMEN OF EUROPE AWARDS are organised by the European Movement International and the European Women’s Lobby. The awards are handed out annually to honour women striving to advance the European project in their professional or private capacity.

Goals

As the role of women in the European project remains largely unrecognised, our goals are:

1. Highlighting and enhancing the role of women in advancing European issues

The Awards are handed out in five different categories, and the winners are selected by a jury of nine.
Woman in Power | showing extraordinary political leadership in Europe
Woman in Action | undertaking extraordinary actions at the grassroots level in Europe
Woman in Business | advancing European integration with entrepreneurial spirit
Young Woman of Europe | for young women (age 15 to 30)  actively strengthening the voice of young women in Europe
Woman in Media | outstanding women in media who possess a powerful voice, actively bringing attention to European issues

2. Increasing the presence and involvement of women in debates about Europe and its future

As part of the Women of Europe Awards, we organise side activities addressing gender equality and diversity. These activities, whether events, communication or policy, are developed in cooperation with our network and external stakeholders from various sectors. In 2022, EMI and EWL organised a joint online event entitled “The threat of anti-gender movements in Europe, as part of the 16 days of activism against Gender-Based Violence, with speakers from the EP, civil society, and experts in the field.

Results

The Women of Europe Awards 2022 were well-promoted over our social media channels and received a lot of external interest, reaching a record of 4.1 million people. The brand was also advertised on billboards and in transit stops in the EU Quarter in Brussels, most notably outside the European Commission building – viewed by tens of thousands. Thanks to our promotion of the WoE Awards, the nominees, the shortlisted, the jury, and the winners via social media, we raised awareness throughout Europe for the Awards and the important cause they serve. Key to that was our media partnership with Euronews, as well as our digital partnership with Meta.
