Weekly European Agenda 06/11/2023
This week, the European Parliament plenary session will take place in Brussels alongside multiple Committee meetings. The Environment committee will adopt its priorities for the upcoming 2023 UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) taking place in Dubai from November 30 to December 12 on Tuesday. During the College meeting on Wednesday, the EU Commissioners will unveil and discuss the 2023 Enlargement Package. On Friday, the Economic and Financial Affairs Council will meet to prepare the second meeting of the Conciliation Committee to reach an agreement with the European Parliament on the EU’s annual budget for 2024.
European Parliament
During the plenary session on Wednesday, MEPs will discuss the outcomes of the 26-27 October European Council followed by the debate on the EU-US Summit outcomes on Thursday. Also, on Thursday, MEPs are set to vote on a resolution on the effectiveness of EU sanctions against Russia, on the legislation introducing the next generation of EU “own resources”, and conclude the approval of the Data Act, which aims to boost innovation by removing barriers that obstruct consumer and business access to data.
Council of Ministers
On Tuesday, EU ministers responsible for space will discuss measures to ensure the continuity and strengthening of space-based infrastructures and improve the technological autonomy of the European Union. The Ministers of Finance and Economy of the Eurozone states will convene for a Eurogroup meeting on Wednesday to focus on macroeconomic developments and competitiveness in the euro area, the state of the banking union, and the future of the European capital and financial markets. The following day, the Economic and Financial Affairs Council will debate the proposed reform of the EU economic governance framework.
European Commission and High Representative
On Monday, Commission President von der Leyen will take part in the EU Ambassadors Conference 2023. On Tuesday, Commissioner Várhelyi will meet with Dmytro Kuleba, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, while Commission Vice-President Jourová will receive Nick Pickles, the Head of Global Government Affairs of Twitter and Shou Chew, the CEO of TikTok. On Wednesday, she will participate in the International Artificial Intelligence Summit 2023, while President von der Leyen will join the European Parliament plenary debate on the conclusions of the European Council meeting on 26-27 October.
