Weekly European Agenda 05/02/2024
This week, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) will meet in Strasbourg for Plenary debates and votes on several issues, including on the EU’s support for Ukraine and on the situation in Serbia following last December’s elections. On Wednesday, Commissioner Ylva Johansson will host a videoconference call with High Commissioner for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Filippo Grandi, while on Thursday and Friday the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union will hold a meeting of the Informal Competitiveness Council configuration.
European Parliament
On Tuesday, MEPs will hold a debate with the Commission on quality traineeship in the EU, while on Wednesday they will vote on a resolution on Rule of Law and media freedom in Greece. On the same day, the Plenary will vote on the implementation report on the EU LGBTIQ Equality Strategy 2020-2025. On Thursday, MEPs will vote on a resolution on the situation in Serbia following elections.
Council of Ministers
The 27 ministers responsible for cohesion will meet on Monday and Tuesday for an informal ministerial meeting of general affairs to address the future of the cohesion policy. On Thursday, the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union will host a conference to address the internal market, and in particular its interaction with citizens, in the context of Enrico Letta’s mandate to produce a report on the future of the internal market.
European Commission and High Representative
On Monday, Commissioner Olivér Várhelyi will participate in the Trilogue on the Ukraine Facility. On Tuesday, the College of Commissioners will gather in Strasbourg to unveil and discuss the communication on the 2040 climate target, while on Wednesday Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis will participate in the second European Investment Bank Group Forum 2024.
