Weekly European Agenda 04/03/2024

This week, multiple European Parliament committee meetings will take place in Brussels. On Thursday, the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM) will hold an Interparliamentary Committee Meeting on the occasion of International Women's Day. On Monday, the Justice and Home Affairs Council will meet to discuss the general state of the Schengen area and the European free travel zone, while on Tuesday, EU Commissioners will gather in Brussels to discuss the European defence industrial strategy (EDIS) and the European defence investment programme (EDIP).



European Parliament

On Monday, MEPs will discuss the impact of economic partnership/investment agreements on developing countries. On Wednesday, a joint meeting of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) and the Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN) will vote on the accounting of greenhouse gas emissions of transport services. On Thursday, parliamentarians will vote on temporary trade-liberalisation measures supplementing trade concessions applicable to Ukrainian products under the Association Agreement between the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community and their Member States. 

European Council

Council of Ministers

On Monday, the Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council will bring together ministers to address the state of play in terms of security of supply and preparations for winter 2024-2025, while on Thursday, ministers in the Competitiveness Council will discuss a report on the advance of the works to reach an agreement on the late payment regulation. On Monday and Tuesday, the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union will host a European conference for a just transition, with a specific focus on the social dimensions of the Green Deal. 

European Commission and High Representative

On Monday, Vice-President Dubravka Suica will receive a delegation from KAS MDPD and International Women's Democracy Union, while on Tuesday, Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič will deliver a keynote speech at the Energy Transition Forum. On Friday, Commissioner Iliana Ivanova will deliver a video message at the Conference of the European Institute for Gender Equality on the Green Deal and gender equality.
