Weekly European Agenda 16/09/2024
This week, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) will meet in Strasbourg for Plenary debates and votes on several issues, including on a resolution on continued financial and military support to Ukraine by EU Member States and on a resolution on the situation in Venezuela. On Tuesday, EU Commissioners will meet in Strasbourg to discuss the revision of the Council recommendation on smoke free environments. From Thursday to Friday, the Hungarian Presidency will host the informal meeting of transport ministers.
European Parliament
On Tuesday, Mario Draghi will address the European Parliament Plenary to present the report on the Future of European competitiveness, followed by a discussion on the topic. On Wednesday, MEPs will meet to discuss organised crime as a major threat to the internal security of the European Union and European citizens, and on the deteriorating situation of women in Afghanistan. On Thursday, MEPs will vote on the EU/USA Agreement on launch of Galileo satellites from the U.S. territory.
Council of Ministers
On Monday and Tuesday, the Hungarian Presidency will host the informal meeting of higher education and research ministers. During the meeting, the Presidency will seek opinions and guidance from ministers to contribute to the Council's position on the concept of the European degree. From Thursday to Friday, the Presidency will host the informal meeting of transport ministers. Topics of discussion include the improvement of connectivity between the EU and neighbouring countries, and challenges and opportunities arising from greening transport.
European Commission and High Representative
On Monday, Commissioner Janusz Wojciechowski will receive Vladimir Bolea, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Agriculture and Food Industry of Moldova, in Brussels. On the same day, Commissioner Jutta Urpilainen will hold a meeting with Vivian Motzfeld, Minister of Independency and Foreign Affairs of Greenland. On Thursday, Commissioner Didier Reynders will meet with Félix Bolaños, Spanish Minister for the Presidency, Justice and Parliamentary Relations, in Madrid.
