Weekly European Agenda 27/04/2026

This week, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) will gather in Strasbourg for plenary debates and votes on several issues, including the EU’s long-term budget, rule of law, and responses to global crises. On Monday, ministers in the Agriculture and Fisheries Council will exchange views on the post-2027 Common Agricultural Policy and the role of agriculture and forests in wildfire prevention. On Tuesday EU Commissioners will gather in Strasbourg to unveil two new initiatives: a communication on better regulation and enforcement, and a Commission recommendation on age verification. On Wednesday and Thursday, the Cypriot Presidency will host an informal meeting of the Telecommunications Council in Lefkosia to discuss Europe’s digital agenda, including the protection of minors online and other key challenges in the digital and cyber sectors.



European Parliament

On Monday, MEPs will address the role of ocean diplomacy in strengthening the competitiveness of EU fisheries and aquaculture. On Tuesday, discussions will cover the interim report on the proposal for the multiannual financial framework for 2028–2034, and efforts to ensure accountability and justice in response to Russia’s continued attacks against civilians in Ukraine. On Wednesday, MEPs will examine an EU strategy in response to the ongoing Middle East crisis, including its impact on energy prices and fertilizer availability, as well as the need for targeted criminal provisions and greater platform responsibility to tackle cyberbullying and online harassment. They will also turn to the situation in Lebanon, focusing on the implementation of the ceasefire, support for peace efforts, and humanitarian access, alongside debates on breaches of human rights, democracy, and the rule of law.

Council of Ministers

On Monday, ministers in the Agriculture and Fisheries Council will meet to discuss the role of agriculture and sustainable forest management in wildfire risk prevention, as well as the post-2027 Common Agricultural Policy proposals, with a focus on income support. They will also review the market situation, particularly in light of the invasion of Ukraine. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the Cypriot Presidency will host an informal meeting of the Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council (Maritime Affairs ministers) in Lefkosia, focusing on the Nicosia Declaration on enhancing seafarers’ education and promoting women’s inclusion in the shipping industry. At the same time, an informal meeting of the Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council (Transport ministers) will also take place in Lefkosia, centred on strengthening Europe’s transport infrastructure and advancing political momentum on the EU Ports Strategy.

European Commission and High Representative

On Monday, High Representative Vice-President Kaja Kallas will visit Brunei, where she will co-chair the 25th EU-ASEAN Ministerial Meeting. On Wednesday, Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas will attend the informal Transport Council (TTE) meeting in Lefkosia. On Thursday, Commissioner Glenn Micallef will present the Culture Compass for Europe at the plenary session of the European Economic and Social Committee in Brussels.
