Weekly European Agenda 04/05/2026

This week, the European Parliament committees will meet to discuss, among other priorities, the housing crisis in Europe and legislative measures to prevent and combat child sexual abuse. On Monday and Tuesday, an informal meeting of the Agriculture and Fisheries Council (AGRIFISH) will take place in Lefkosia, focusing on agricultural risk management and the evaluation of the Common Fisheries Policy. On Tuesday, ministers in the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) will discuss VAT fraud enforcement and financial market integration. On Wednesday, EU Commissioners will gather in Brussels to present the orientation debate on the Circular Economy Act and the social package.



European Parliament

On Monday, the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) will hold a debate on the Ukraine Facility Dialogue, focusing on the EU’s continued financial and political support framework for Ukraine. On Tuesday, the Special Committee on the Housing Crisis in the European Union (HOUS) will convene for a high-level event on the housing crisis in the European Union, jointly organised with the European Commission. On Wednesday, the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) will focus on key legislative work to prevent and combat child sexual abuse, including the recast of rules on sexual exploitation and child sexual abuse material.

Council of Ministers

On Tuesday, the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) will focus on strengthening the fight against VAT fraud by granting EPPO and OLAF access to EU-level data. Ministers will also discuss the market integration and supervision package to advance the Savings and Investment Union, assess the economic impact of Russia’s war against Ukraine, and review broader EU legislation. The Council will also review outcomes from the recent G20 finance ministers and central bank governors meeting. On Monday and Tuesday, the informal Agriculture and Fisheries Council (AGRIFISH), hosted by the Cypriot Presidency in Lefkosia, will discuss risk management in agriculture, including approaches to increasing sector resilience, informed by a World Bank presentation on agri-risk solutions. Fisheries ministers will focus on the evaluation of the Common Fisheries Policy and its adaptation to current sectoral challenges.

European Commission and High Representative

On Monday, President Ursula von der Leyen will participate in the first EU-Armenia Summit in Yerevan. On Tuesday, Commissioner Marta Kos will meet with Pedro Sánchez, President of the Government of Spain, in Madrid. On Friday, Commissioner Glenn Micallef will meet with Inga Ruginienė, Prime Minister of Lithuania, in Vilnius.
