European Parliament


Monday 15 – Wednesday 17 May

FEMM delegation to Denmark
A delegation from the FEMM Committee will travel to Denmark to discuss topics such as women’s entrepreneurship and will include meetings with representatives of both the public sector, members of the Danish Parliament and NGOs.

PECH delegation to Ireland
A delegation from the PECH Committee will travel to Ireland to address challenges posed by Brexit.

AGRI delegation to the Netherlands 
A delegation from the AGRI Committee will discuss breeding techniques, ecological farming, water management, nutrients and recent farmers’ protests that have taken place in Netherlands.

TRAN delegation to Indonesia 
A delegation from the TRAN Committee will travel to Indonesia to address common challenges facing transport, decarbonisation and tourism initiatives and cooperation between the EU and ASEAN.

ECON delegation to Japan 
A delegation from the ECON Committee will travel to Japan to meet with parliamentarians and representatives of the Bank of Japan, the ministry of finance, the financial services supervisory authority and the Tokyo stock exchange.

DEVE delegation to Senegal 
A delegation from the DEVE Committee will travel to Senegal to review the EU’s development portfolio in the country, including topics such as vaccine development, EU support for the Great Green Wall, climate adaption, and female empowerment.

ITRE delegation to Finland 
A delegation from the ITRE Committee will travel to Finland to discuss developments related to energy, including on nuclear waste management and gas, ICT and research.

CONT delegation to Hungary 
A delegation from the CONT Committee will travel to Hungary to assess issues with the protection of the EU budget in the country, and especially focus on the control systems and procedures that the government has in place to manage the recovery and resilience funding.

CULT delegation to Poland 
A delegation from the CULT Committee will travel to Poland to discuss recent developments in education, cultural and media policies in Poland, including academic and artistic freedom.

Monday 15 – Thursday 18 May

AFET delegation to Washington D.C. and Wisconsin 
A delegation from the AFET Committee will travel to Washington D.C. and Wisconsin to discuss topics such as Ukraine, Russia, China, Indo-Pacific, Iran, EU-U.S. energy security cooperation, cybersecurity and fighting false narratives. They will discuss these topics with representatives from the U.S. Department of State, House of Representatives, Senate, think tanks and non-profit organisations.

LIBE delegation to Washington D.C. 
A delegation from the LIBE Committee will travel to Washington D.C. to meet with members of Congress, representatives from the Federal Trade Commission, the Departments of State and Justice, the Data Protection Review Court, Office of the Director of National Intelligence as well as stakeholders from tech companies and NGOs. The agenda items include transatlantic data flows, privacy, children’s safety, counter-terrorism, antitrust policy and women’s rights.

SEDE delegation to Moldova and Romania 
A delegation from the SEDE Subcommittee will visit the NATO multinational Battalion in Cincu, Romania, the city of Hirbovat in Moldova, and the European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM Ukraine).

PETI delegation to Romania 
The PETI Committee wil travel to Romania to address issues raised by petitioners: illegal logging and the management and protection of the brown bear population.

Council of Ministers


Monday 15 – Tuesday 16 May 

Education, Youth, Culture and Sport Council 
The ministers in charge of education, youth, culture and sport will discuss topics such as: the social dimension of a sustainable Europe for youth; respect for human rights in the organisation of international sporting events; the European Media Freedom Act; and the importance of reading for learning, equity and active participation in society.

Tuesday 16 May 

Economic and Financial Affairs Council
The ministers are expected to discuss a variety of topics, including bank crisis management and deposit insurance framework where the ministers will provide their first reactions. They will also discuss the economic and financial impact of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, focusing particularily on customs-related issues. There will be an update provided by the Commission on the sactions against Russia and the implementation of them with a special focus on the possible circumvention of restrictive measures with what regards export and import of goods from a customs perspective. With regards to the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), the Commission will also lay out the state of play on its implementation.

Commissioner Johannes Hahn will deliver a keynote speech at the Salzburger Wirtschaftsforum 2023.

Schinas participates to the Education, Youth and Culture Concil 
Vice-President Margaritis Schinas will participate at the Education, Youth and Culture Council.

President Ursula von der Leyen will meet with the Prime Minister of Iceland, Katrín Jakobsdóttir.

Commssioner Johannes Hahn will receive Minister for Regional Development and EU Funds of Hungary.

President Ursula von der Leyen will participate in the Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Council of Europe taking place in Iceland.

Wednesday 17 May

College Meeting 
The College of Commissioners are expected to discuss and present the following initiatives: Measures to reduce the release of microplastics in the environment; Customs reform; and A new agenda for Latin America and the Caribbean. Executive Vice-Presidents Frans Timmermans and Valdis Dombrovskis as well as High Representative Josep Borrell will be in charge of the meeting.

Commissioner Stella Kyriakides receives United States Secretary of Health and Human Services, Xavier Becerra, for an EU-US Health Dialogue.

Thursday 18 May

Commissioner Stella Kyriakides will deliver a speech for the European Cancer Nursing Day via a pre-recorded video.

Friday 19 – Sunday 21 May

von der Leyen participates in the G7 Summit 
President Ursula von der Leyen will participate in the G7 Summit which is hosted by Japan, Presidency of the G7.

Waste-to-energy-and-the-city
ESWET (European Suppliers of Waste-to-Energy Technology) will hold a conference that is co-hosted by CoR which will gather high-level speakers to discuss the role of Waste-to-Energy in tackling local challenges, helping achieve EU energy & sustainability goals, and showcase successful examples that already benefit EU citizens.

Monday 15 May

Meeting of EU directors-general on territorial cohesion and the Territorial Agenda
On the agenda are items such as: Communication and Territorial Agenda 2030 website; Review of the Territorial Agenda 2030 – survey results and scoping paper; Pilot Actions – Conclusions and plans for the future; Trends shaping Territorial Cohesion; Policy Paper for the Swedish Presidency: Territorial Perspective of Green Industrialisation; EU Rural Vision and Rural Pacts; Study visit; and Coming Presidencies.

Monday 15 May – Tuesday 16 May

50th Meeting of Directors-General within the framework of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism
On the agenda are items such as how to strengthen Europe’s resilience, how to adapt the Mechanism to respond to today’s complex emergencies and preparations for the 2023 wildfires. Directors-General of authorities and agencies acting as contact points for the EU Civil Protection Mechanism in the 27 EU Member States and the 9 participating states will be present.

Meeting of the European Crime Prevention Network (EUCPN)
The goal of EUCPN is to promote knowledge development and exchanges of experience in crime prevention at work at the EU level. The first day will discuss issues concerning the network’s role, while a conference on preventing work-related crime will take place on the second day.

Occupational safety and health summit
The Swedish Presidency and the European Commission will review the progress of the Commission’s Strategy Framework on Health and Safety at Work 2021-2027. The summit will focus on mental health in a work arena, the role of social partners, effects of heat waves and climate change in the field of occupational safety, and the vision-zero approach to work-related deaths.

CEE Sustainable Finance Summit
The CEE Sustainable Finance Summit is the largest event on sustainability in finance and business in Central and Eastern Europe, and EIB President Werner Hoyer will give a keynote speech. Hakan Lucius, Head of Corporate Responsibility at EIB, will take part in the panel discussion on the advantages of ESG ratings, the changes that we need to see in the use and creation of ESG ratings, and how they can be leveraged by businesses.

Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Council of Europe
The 4th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Council of Europe will take place in Reykjavik, Iceland, and features an historic opportunity for the Council of Europe to refocus its mission considering the new threats to democracy and human rights, and to support Ukraine.
