European Movement International welcomes the European Commission’s Digital Single Market Strategy for Europe
The completion of the Digital Single Market will contribute an additional EUR 415 billion to European GDP and will create 3.8 million jobs in the EU. The European Movement International welcomes the European Commission’s Digital Single Market Strategy for Europe.
The strategy will be built on three pillars: Better access for consumers and businesses to online goods and services across Europe; Creating the right conditions for digital networks and services to flourish and maximising the growth potential of our European Digital Economy.
Eva Paunova, Vice-President of European Movement International and Co-chair of EMI’s Political Committee on Jobs, Competitiveness and Sustainable Growth, said:
“The Commission’s proposal on the DSM has set ambitious goals but most of all it shows that EU Commissioners and EU officials realise that the world we live in is digital by default, that there is an on-going change in people’s mind-sets and all of us need to start thinking digitally and to embrace the fifth freedom of the EU Single market. An important part of the DSM is e-Government which will not only save businesses and consumers time and money, but also foster citizens’ participation in social and political life.”
The EMI Political Committee on Jobs, Competitiveness and Sustainable Growth, was set up in Rome in 2014. It follows developments in the areas relative to better education and jobs, youth unemployment, the environment and climate change. It focuses more particularly on the current economic crisis and the implementation of the Juncker Investment Plan, the Energy Union and the Digital Single Market. It is co-chaired by EMI Vice-Presidents and MEPs Eva Paunova and Jean-Marie Cavada.
