Monday 13 January

MEPs will hold debates on: Cross-border organised crime and its impact on free movement; Gender pay gap; Common charger for mobile radio equipment; “Housing First” as urgent action to address the situation of homeless people in Europe.

Tuesday 14 January

MEPs will hold debates on: Presentation of the programme of activities of the Croatian Presidency; Sustainable investment plan and just transition fund; Ongoing hearings under article 7(1) of the TEU, in particular the case of Hungary; Annual report on the implementation of the Common Foreign and Security Policy; Annual report on the implementation of the Common Security and Defence Policy; Annual report 2018 on the human rights and democracy in the world and the European Union’s policy on the matter; Situation in Libya; Rights of indigenous peoples in America.
MEPs will vote on: Common system of value added tax as regards the special scheme for small enterprises.

Wednesday 15 January

MEPs will hold debates on: European Parliament’s position on the Conference on the Future of Europe; The reopening of the prosecution against the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic on the misuse of EU funds and potential conflicts of interest; COP15 to the Convention on Biological Diversity (Kunming 2020); Activities of the European Ombudsman in 2018; Reform of the general principles of comitology.
MEPs will vote on: Protocol to the Agreement between the EU, Iceland and Norway concerning the criteria and mechanisms for establishing the State responsible for examining a request for asylum lodged in a Member State or in Iceland or Norway regarding the access to Eurodac for law enforcement purposes; EU-China Agreement on certain aspects of air services; The European Green Deal.

Thursday 16 January

MEPs will hold debates on: Debates on cases of breaches of human rights, democracy and the rule of law (Rule 144); Major interpellations (Rule 139).
MEPs will vote on: Motions for resolutions concerning debates on cases of breaches of human rights, democracy and the rule of law (Rule 144).

European Entrepreneurial Region 2021 Info Day
The EER 2021 Info Day aims to support interested cities and regions in preparing their application by giving them the opportunity to: learn more about the new framework of the EER scheme as adopted by the CoR Bureau, obtain first-hand tips and advice from successful EER regions and members of the EER jury.

Stakeholders’ consultation on “Demographic change: proposals on measuring and tackling its negative effects on EU regions”
The European Committee of the Regions (CoR) is drafting an opinion on “Demographic change: proposals on measuring and tackling its negative effects on EU regions”. This is an opinion meant to provide feedback for the upcoming action plan for regions affected by demographic change, as it is specified in Commissioner Dubravka Šuica’s mission letter by the European Commission President.

Political briefing on the Declaration ‘Join, Boost and Sustain’ (Digital) for regional representations and stakeholders
The highlight of the session will be to explain why political leaders at local and regional level are invited to sign the declaration and commit to pursue this digital transformation through the ‘European way’: boosting the upscaling of digital solutions and ensuring technological leadership in Europe, while respecting European values and citizen digital rights.

Croatian Presidency


Tuesday 14 January

Informal Workshop on Climate Change organised by the Croatian Presidency of the European Union
The representatives of EU Member States will discuss the state of international negotiations on climate change and the results of the 25th United Nations Framework Conference on Climate Change (COP 25) and the implementation of the Paris Agreement Work Program. It is an informal meeting that includes workshops on priority negotiation topics to better understand the issues and form the basis for further EU negotiations at the international level.

Council of Europe Raoul Wallenberg Prize Award ceremony
The Award Ceremony for the Raoul Wallenberg Prize will take place on the date of Raoul Wallenberg’s arrest in Budapest in 1945. The 10,000 EUR prize was established in 2012 to reward extraordinary humanitarian achievements by individuals and organisations. Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić will award the prize to the winner who will be announced on 15 January.
