High-level conference to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Convention of the Rights of the Child
Parliament is organising a high-level conference to mark the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child as well as to discuss progress made over the past three decades and reflect on the challenges that children and youth face today. It will be opened by Her Majesty the Queen of the Belgians, Parliament President David Sassoli as well as Spanish singer and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador David Bisbal.

Agriculture and Fisheries Council
Ministers will exchange views on the environmental and climate-related aspects of the post 2020 CAP reform package which consists of three legislative proposals: a regulation on the CAP strategic plans, a regulation single common market organisation (CMO), a horizontal regulation on financing, managing and monitoring the CAP.

European Economic Area Council
The EEA Council will assess the overall functioning of the EEA agreement. It will also hold an orientation debate on the single market beyond 2019.

General Affairs Council
On enhancing respect for the rule of law in the EU, ministers will first hold, in public session, an exchange of views with Michael O’Flaherty, Director of the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights. They will then focus on conclusions on the evaluation of the Council’s annual rule of law dialogue.

European Union Military Committee, EU Chiefs of Defence
EU Chiefs of Defence will discuss the EU’s military operations and missions, including EUNAVFOR Operation Sophia and Operation Atalanta. They will also discuss the EU battlegroups as well as the EU military capabilities.

Education, Youth, Culture and Sports Council
Culture ministers are expected to adopt a resolution on the cultural dimension of sustainable development aiming at enhancing culture’s contribution to the global challenge of sustainability, as well as to adopt conclusions on combating corruption in sport.

Foreign Affairs Council – Trade
The Council will discuss the state of play of the World Trade Organization (WTO) reform, as well as recent developments in EU-US trade relations.

Circular Plastics Alliance – Packaging Working Group Conference
The Circular Plastics Alliance was launched in December 2018 by the European Commission, with the support of First Vice-President Timmermans and Vice-President Katainen, to build on the momentum gained with the European campaign for voluntary commitments by industry to produce and use more recycled plastics in the EU (European campaign for voluntary pledges). the Working Group of the Alliance on Packaging will meet for the first time in the European Committee of the Regions.

The State of Democracy in East-Central Europe – Thirty years after the fall of the Berlin Wall
This event aims at commemorating 30 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall and reviewing the past and current state of democracy in East-Central Europe. The one-day Conference will explore the evolution and the current state of democracies in the region.

9th Subsidiarity Conference – Active Subsidiarity: Creating EU added value together
The Subsidiarity Conference is a biennial one day-event that seeks to strengthen the EU inter-institutional dialogue on subsidiarity scrutiny and allows for a true exchange between all players involved in the subsidiarity monitoring process. The 2019 Conference is dedicated to developing ‘Active Subsidiarity’ in Europe – a follow-up to the Task Force on Subsidiarity, Proportionality and ‘Doing Less More Efficiently’.

Conference on Best in Class Deposit Return Systems (DRS) for Single-Use Beverage Packaging  
The conference will bring together EU and national policy makers, local and regional authorities, industry and other stakeholders and experts from across Europe to share their expertise and experience on the different components of the most successful deposit return systems.

Seminar – Re/defining Spatial Concepts
Led by the Finnish spatial designer Heini Lehtinen, the project looks at the interconnections between spatial design and conflict mediation. A seminar targeted at local NGOs, opinion-makers and other interested audiences to be held in Brussels.

Artificial Intelligence: Intergovernmental committee to start examining feasibility of a legal framework
The Ad hoc Committee on Artificial Intelligence (CAHAI) will have an exchange of views with leading experts and examine national initiatives, policies and strategies, as well as the work undertaken so far by the Council of Europe and other organisations in this field.

Conference on cybercrime: evidence in cyberspace, fake news and election interference
The conference will examine ways in which the rule of law in cyberspace can be strengthened through a Protocol to the Budapest Convention.
