The fifteenth edition of the EuropeanChats will take place on Thursday May 11 at 11:00 CEST. CESI and UNITEE will take part in this chat, with President and founding member of UNITEE Adem Kumcu, and Secretary General of the European Confederation of Independent Trade Unions (CESI) Klaus Heeger as participants. Head of Projects & Fundraising at European Movement International Maja Bobić will moderate the session.

Informal meeting of foreign affairs ministers – Gymnich
EU foreign ministers will get together for the Informal meeting of foreign affairs ministers (Gymnich). Agenda items include Russia’a aggression against Ukraine, where a working lunch will provide the arena to have an enhanced dialogue with third countries about the global consequences of  Russia’s aggression. The topic of EU-China relations will also be discussed.

Democracy, fundamental rights and the Swedish model
There will be a Workers’ Group conference in Stockholm on the occasion of the Swedish EU Presidency. The first debate will be centered around the priorities of the Swedish EU Presidency and the challenges it faces. The following panel will address the origins and challenges of the Swedish social model. The panel organised on May 12 will be on “The twin transition in Europe and the social dimension”, and the last panel of the conference has the theme of: “The need to fight for democracy and fundamental rights”. The last panel will address topics such as disinformation, rising extremeism, internal threats from populist governments threatening the free media and rule of law to maintain power.

Wednesday 10 May

Meeting of the ENVE commission
The meeting of the ENVE commission will take place fully in person from 11:00-17:00, and the first items on the agenda are a debates on Zero Pollution, adoption of two opinions: one on the “Revision of the Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive” and the other one on “Revision of the EU Ambient Air Quality Legislation”. Following later in the day, is an adoption of the opinion “Fostering the potential and synergies of EU energy and climate initiatives for regions and cities”, followed by an exchange of views on “UNFCCC COP28: the role of subnational authorities in keeping climate ambition on track”. The meeting will end with an explanatory debate on the “Reform the EU’s electricity market design”.

Thursday 11 May – Friday 12 May

Cities Talk Nature Conference: Unlocking the potential of underutilised urban areas
This two-day conference will tackle the issue of how the green transition in cities should be achieved. Topics that will be discussed include: enabling policy and governance frameworks, identification of key actors within city administrations, how to foster cross-sectoral collaboration and citizen participation, financing options, managing conflicts of interest and potential trade-offs between green and grey options for different stakeholders.

Saturday 13 May

EU Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum
As a part of the aim of strengthening the partnership between the EU and the Indo-Pacific region, this meeting will bring together more than 60 people, including regional organisations and other partners. This meeting will be co-chaired by EU High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, and EU Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum in Stockholm, in the context of the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the EU.

Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly Delegation to exchange views with FRA
A delegation of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly Equality and Non-Discrimination Committee, and member of the “No Hate Parliamentary Alliance” will pay a visit to FRA on Monday 8 May. The topics of the meeting are centered around racism, antisemitism, anti-Muslim hatred, anti-Gypsyism, homophobia, transphobia.

The EIB and Europe Day 2023
Marking the signing of the “Schuman Declaration” on May 9 1950, the plan to ensure peace in post-war Europe is widely considered as the beginning of what we today talk about as the European Union. EIB takes this opportunity to promote the different events held on this day accross the EU institutions, and highlights their unity and solidarity with Ukraine.

Hosted by Iceland in the framework of its Presidency of the Committee of Ministers, the 2023 edition of the European IDAHOT+ Forum will aim to strengthen cooperation and protecting the LGBTI people between European governments, international governments, civil society organisations and other key stakeholders.
