Eurogroup
The Eurozone Ministers will gather in regular format to discuss the mission to the euro area under the article IV of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), 2024 euro area recommendation, euro area competitiveness: developments of energy prices in the euro area, impact on the euro area economy and policy responses, and Eurogroup work programme for I/2024.

Tuesday 16 January

Economic and Financial Affairs Council
Ministers of Economy and Finance of the EU Member States will meet in Brussels to work on approving conclusions on the alert mechanism report 2024 and the annual sustainable growth survey 2024 for the European Semester 2024. The Belgian Presidency will present its work programme for the first semester of the year in the field of economic and financial affairs. Ministers will also exchange views on the state of play of the economic and financial impact of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

Tuesday 16 January

College meeting
EU Commissioners are expected to debate the revision of the European Works Council Directive during the College meeting in Strasbourg.

Vice-President Margaritis Schinas will hold meetings with the state officials in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra will meet with Tanja Fajon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign and European Affairs of Slovenia at the World Economic Forum, in Davos, Switzerland.

Vice-President Dubravka Šuica will meet with Neal Mohan, CEO of YouTube during the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Hoekstra at World Economic Forum
Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra will speak with Stefan Decraene, Chair of the Managing Board of Rabobank, with María Susana Muhamad, Minister for the Environment and Sustainable Development of Colombia, with the Co-Chairs of the World Economic Forum Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders, and with James Quincey, Chairman and CEO of the Coca Cola Company at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Vice-President Dubravka Šuica will deliver a keynote speech at a public session “Navigating longer lifespans”, organised by the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra will meet with José Manuel Barroso, former European Commission President and Chairman of the Gavi Vaccine Alliance during the World Economic Forum.

Informal meeting of environment ministers
EU ministers responsible for environment will hold an informal meeting in Brussels organised by the Belgian Presidency of the European Council. The discussion will focus on three main topics: adaptation and resilience, circular economy, and just transition.

Thursday 18 January 

Conference “Minimum Income, towards a safety net for all”
The aim of the event is to take stock of the measures introduced by the Member States (MSs) since the adoption of a recommendation that encourages MSs and the European Union to introduce an appropriate minimum income and work on social inclusion and integration in the labour market in January 2023. MSs will also communicate their expectations for the programme of the next European Commission (2024-2029) on this issue, as well as for the potential actions that will be carried out at the European level to support the implementation of the proposal.

Thursday 18 – Friday 19 January

Brussels Cybersecurity Summit
The Belgian presidency of the Council of the EU will organise this event to take stock of major dynamics and to reflect on the future of the cybersecurity field. This summit will bring together some 500 key European policy makers and global experts in cybersecurity strategy, investment, and cyber threat intelligence to serve as a be an interactive bridge-builder that drives European cybersecurity forward, promotes new concepts such as Active Cyber Protection, and pushes the EU to cross ‘the last mile’ to make Europe more cybersecure.
