Youth Meets the Union – Empowering Youth in the EU to Advocate for Their Social Rights
JustEU&Me aims at empowering young people (18-30) and youth association representatives to influence EU and Member State policies on social justice, focusing on education, gender equality, and equal opportunities under the European Pillar of Social Rights (EPSR). To foster meaningful dialogue between young people and European policymakers on these topics, the European Movement International is hosting the final, pan-European, online conference “Youth Meets the Union” from 9-11 October.

Council of Ministers

Tuesday 8 October

Economic and Financial Affairs Council
Ministers will take stock of the implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF). The Council will aim to adopt implementing decisions approving modified recovery and resilience plans, submitted by some Member States. Ministers will also be informed of the state of play of the economic and financial impact of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

Thursday 10 October
Justice and Home Affairs Council
At the meeting of ministers of home affairs, the presidency will aim to reach a general approach (common position of Member States) on a legislative proposal to combat child sexual abuse. Ministers will also take stock of the overall state of the Schengen area. The Commission will present the Schengen Barometer, a biannual report that looks at developments, emerging threats and developments for the Schengen area.

Make Europe social again
The Workers’ Group is organising an extraordinary meeting in Budapest, on the occasion of the Hungarian Council Presidency. The agenda includes a discussion on the priorities and programme of the Presidency and the need for further progress in cohesion, employment and social policies, with the participation of representatives of the Hungarian government and the Hungarian trade union confederations, as well as various experts from the social, academic, economic and legal fields.

Promoting intergenerational solidarity in the EU
The Civil Society Organisations’ Group (Group III) of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) will hold a conference entitled ‘Promoting intergenerational solidarity in the EU’ in Brussels. The conference will discuss the positive impact of intergenerational solidarity in the context of Europe’s ageing population and explore the key role that each generation plays – and should be able to play – in ensuring a sustainable future for all.

162nd CoR Plenary Session
​​​​The main highlights of the session will be: State of Regions and Cities in the European Union, a debate on 20 years after the 2004 EU enlargement: Lessons learnt and looking ahead and debate on the priorities of the Hungarian presidency of the Council of the EU.

Hungarian Presidency

Informal meeting of employment and social policy ministers
The informal meeting will consist of two main blocks. The morning (employment) session will focus on labour shortages and the mobilization of the untapped labour potential in the context of demographic challenges. In the afternoon (social) session, the ministers will discuss the key issues of social inclusion of persons with disabilities and persons with changed working capacities, with particular attention to the interpretation of, national legislation on and implementation of reasonable accommodation as well as the exploration of best practices.

European Week of Cities and Regions
The European Week of Regions and Cities (EU Regions Week) is the biggest annual event dedicated to cohesion policy. Organised by the European Commission and the Committee of the Regions, it is an event during which cities and regions discuss their common challenges, showcase their capacity to create growth and jobs, implement European Union cohesion policy, and prove the importance of the local and regional level for good European governance. EIB will host several sessions.
