European Council 


Wednesday 01 October

Informal meeting of heads of state or government
EU leaders will discuss how to strengthen Europe’s defence, including in view of Russia’s recent airspace violations in several EU Member States. These provocations have further demonstrated the need for the EU to accelerate and deepen efforts to build a Europe capable of responding effectively, autonomously and together to common threats. EU leaders will also discuss how to further support Ukraine and achieve a just and lasting peace.

Council of Ministers 


Monday 29 September

Competitiveness Council (Internal market and industry)
Ministers will hold a policy debate on the European Competitiveness Fund (ECF), one of the main elements of the 2028-2034 long-term EU budget (the forthcoming multiannual financial framework (MFF). Ministers will also hear a presentation by Commission Executive Vice-President Séjourné on the annual progress report on simplification, which will be followed by an exchange of views.

Tuesday 30 September

Competitiveness Council (Research)
Ministers are expected to approve Council conclusions on the importance of research and innovation for the EU Startup and Scaleup Strategy. Ministers will also hold a policy debate on the Horizon Europe MFF Package, focusing on the topic of ‘EU research and innovation for dual use, security and defence’.

The SEDEC commission will hold its 5th meeting of the 8th mandate in Brussels. Discussions include one opinion and debates.

Wednesday 01 October

5th CIVEX commission meeting
The CIVEX commission members will debate on the European Internal Security Strategy ProtectEU, the EU Black Sea Strategy and the localisation of the EU’s Global Gateway.

Thursday 02 October

Three Dimensions of the Three Seas Initiative: Diplomacy, Science and Regions
The Three Seas Initiative (3SI) is a project launched in 2015 by the presidents of Poland and Croatia, currently bringing together 13 Central European countries, whose strategic goal is to preserve and strengthen the unity of the European Union and the Euro-Atlantic area. The event will focus on the role of regions, academics, and EU institutions in developing cooperation within the format.

Tuesday 30 September

Meeting with the Petitions Committee of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (Germany)
Meeting to discuss and exchange how EO handles citizen inquiries on EU-level. Questions about European laws and citizen participation are playing an increasingly important role at the regional level. The role and acceptance of the EU must also be promoted at the regional level in order to reach more citizens.

Monday 29 September

FRA to host strategic cooperation Holocaust remembrance workshop
FRA will hold a multilateral partner strategic cooperation workshop. This event will bring together a diverse group of actors who are active in the fields of memory, remembrance, and countering antisemitism. The objective of the workshop is to facilitate discussions on activities and explore strategic partnerships among the various actors. The focus will be on Holocaust remembrance, education, research, and the promotion and protection of fundamental rights related to countering antisemitism, including Holocaust distortion and denial.

Wednesday 01 October

FRA to join Human Rights Commissioner’s Roma report launch
FRA Director Sirpa Rautio will give a speech at the launch of the Council of Europe Human Rights Commissioner’s report on the human rights situation of Roma and Travellers.

Thursday 02 October

Launching FRA’s Roma Survey 2024 report
FRA Director Sirpa Rautio will join the high-level political panel at the 18th European Platform for Roma Inclusion meeting. She will announce FRA’s publication with results from the Roma Survey 2024 that will be available on 2 October
