Weekly European Agenda 14/10/2024

This week, multiple European Parliament’s committees will take place in Brussels to debate and vote on several policy issues. On Monday, the Foreign Affairs Council will bring together ministers to discuss Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, after an informal exchange of views with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha, via videoconference. On Thursday and Friday, the European Council will bring together EU heads of state and government to discuss Ukraine, the Middle East, competitiveness, migration and foreign affairs.



European Parliament

On Monday, the Committee on International Trade (INTA) will meet to discuss and vote on a report establishing the Ukraine Loan Cooperation Mechanism and providing exceptional macro-financial assistance to Ukraine. On the same day, the Committee on Development (DEVE) will meet to discuss the humanitarian situation in Lebanon. On Thursday, the Subcommittee on Human Rights (DROI) will exchange views on the International Criminal Court (ICC) and EU policy on International Humanitarian Law, in preparation for the ad hoc delegation to the Hague on 29-30 October.  

European Council

On Thursday and Friday, the European Council will bring together EU heads of state and government to discuss Ukraine, the Middle East, competitiveness, migration and foreign affairs. 

Council of Ministers

On Monday, the Environment Council will gather ministers to approve conclusions on preparations for the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. On Tuesday, ministers in the General Affairs Council will continue preparations for the European Council meeting on 17-18 October and discuss the draft conclusions. On the same day, ministers in the Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council will follow up on the recommendations included in the Draghi Report and publicly exchange views on the contribution of the energy sector to the competitiveness of the European Union. 

European Commission and High Representative

On Monday, Commissioner Iliana Ivanova will meet with Ognian Shentov, Chairman of the Center for the Study of Democracy, and Todor Galev, Director of Research of the Center for the Study of Democracy, in Sofia. On Tuesday, Commissioner Didier Reynders will hold a videoconference call with Peter Kyle, UK Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology. On Wednesday, Commissioner Iliana Ivanova will deliver a keynote speech at an event for the presentation of the report of the expert group on the interim evaluation of Horizon Europe, in Brussels.
