Weekly European Agenda 26/05/2025
No parliamentary meetings are scheduled in Brussels, as the week is set aside for external parliamentary activities. On Monday, the Foreign Affairs Council will gather ministers to discuss the effect Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine and the changes in US tariff policy has on the market situation for agricultural products and commodities. On Wednesday, EU Commissioners will gather in Brussels to unveil three new initiatives: the EU Start-up and Scale-up Strategy, the EU strategic approach to the Black Sea region and the Simplification of the External Action Guarantee.
Council of Ministers
On Monday, the Foreign Affairs Council will gather ministers to discuss the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the EU-African Union ministerial meeting that took place on 21 May. On Tuesday, ministers in the General Affairs Council will be invited to adopt a general approach on simplifying and strengthening the regulation on the EU’s carbon border adjustment mechanism, as part of the Commission’s ‘Omnibus I’ simplification package. The Council will also start preparations for the European Council meeting of 26-27 June 2025 by discussing an annotated draft agenda.
European Commission and High Representative
On Tuesday, Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra will meet with Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Prime Minister of Greece, in Athens. On Wednesday, Commissioner Jessika Roswall will receive Marilena Raouna, Deputy Minister for European Affairs of Cyprus, in Brussels. On Friday, High Representative Vice-President Kaja Kallas will attend the IISS Asia Security Summit: The Shangri-La Dialogue, in Singapore.
