Weekly European Agenda 16/06/2025

This week, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) will gather in Strasbourg for plenary debates and votes on several issues, including the human cost of Russia’s war against Ukraine. On Tuesday, EU Commissioners will gather in Strasbourg to unveil three initiatives: the 2024 annual management and performance report for the EU budget, the fifth Omnibus on defence and the review of the securitisation framework. On Thursday, the Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council will gather ministers to seek to agree its negotiating position on a proposed directive to improve working conditions for trainees and address employment relationships disguised as traineeships.



European Parliament

On Monday, MEPs will have a debate on the Clean Industrial Deal. On the same day, they will discuss strengthening rural areas in the EU through cohesion policy. On Tuesday, MEPs will discuss electoral rights of mobile Union citizens in European Parliament elections.  

Council of Ministers

On Monday, ministers in the Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council will be invited to express their opinions on the REPowerEU roadmap, which the Commission made public on 6 May. Ministers are also expected to approve Council conclusions on strengthening the energy union through reinforcing energy security. On Friday, the Economic and Financial Affairs Council will gather ministers to exchange views on the 2025 European Semester Spring package. In the context of efforts to improve competitiveness, the Council will also hold a policy debate reflecting on how to lower energy prices in the EU. 

European Commission and High Representative

On Monday, President Ursula von der Leyen will participate in the G7 Summit, hosted by Canada, Presidency of the G7, in Kananaskis. On the same day, Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas will meet with Sean Duffy, Secretary for Transportation of the USA, in Paris. On Thursday, Commissioner Hadja Lahbib will attend the EPSCO Council meeting on Equality, in Luxembourg.
