Weekly European Agenda 01/12/2025

This week, multiple European Parliament’s committee meetings will take place in Brussels to debate and vote on several issues. On Monday, ministers in the Foreign Affairs Council will discuss EU military support for Ukraine, after an informal exchange of views with the Minister of Defence of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, and NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte. On Wednesday, EU Commissioners will gather in Brussels to unveil six new initiatives: The Environmental Omnibus, the EU Drugs Strategy and European action plan against drug trafficking, the Economic Security Package, the EU market integration and efficient supervision, the Quality Jobs Roadmap and the EU Agenda for Cities.



European Parliament

On Monday, the Special committee on the European Democracy Shield (EUDS) will have a public hearing on democratic resilience and countering disinformation with the case of the Western Balkans. On the same day, the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) will vote on EU-US political relations. On Wednesday, the Committee on Security and Defence (SEDE) will receive a presentation of the Defence Transformation Roadmap with Herald Ruijters, Deputy Director-General for Defence Industry and Space, DG Defence Industry and Space (DEFIS).  

Council of Ministers

On Monday, ministers in the Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council will seek to approve conclusions on the future European Affordable Housing Plan, which the Commission plans to publish in December 2025. On the same day, the Foreign Affairs Council will discuss EU military support for Ukraine, after an informal exchange of views with the Minister of Defence of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, and NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte. On Thursday, ministers in the Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council are expected to adopt a Council position that amends the directive laying down maximum authorised dimensions and weights for certain road vehicles. 

European Commission and High Representative

On Monday, Commissioner Andrius Kubilius will meet with Robertas Kaunas, Minister for National Defence of Lithuania, in Brussels. On Tuesday, Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič will receive Yeo Han-Koo, Minister of Trade of the Republic of Korea. On Wednesday, President Ursula von der Leyen will host the first meeting of the President’s Youth Advisory Board, in Brussels.
