Weekly European Agenda 16/02/2026

No parliamentary meetings are scheduled in Brussels, as the week is set aside for external parliamentary activities. On Tuesday, Ministers will meet in the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN). On Wednesday, EU Commissioners will gather in Brussels to unveil the Communication on Eastern border regions. On Thursday and Friday, the Cypriot Presidency will host an informal meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council (Trade) to discuss the ongoing trade dossiers, including bilateral trade agreements, in Lefkosia.



European Parliament

No parliamentary meetings are scheduled in Brussels, as the week is set aside for external parliamentary activities.

Council of Ministers

On Tuesday, ministers in the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) will exchange views on the supplementary pensions package which aims to boost this sector in the EU. The Council will also be invited to approve conclusions on the guidelines for the 2027 budget which will serve as a reference in the coming budget cycle. Lastly, ministers will discuss the national escape clause under the Stability and Growth Pact (SGP) for Austria. On Thursday and Friday, The Cypriot Presidency will host an informal meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council (Trade) to discuss the ongoing trade dossiers, including bilateral trade agreements, EU-China trade relations and the upcoming 14th World Trade Organization Ministerial Conference, in Lefkosia.

European Commission and High Representative

On Monday, Commissioner Piotr Serafin will meet with Lars Klingbeil, German Minister of Finance, in Brussels. On Tuesday, Commissioner Maria Luís Albuquerque will attend the ECOFIN meeting, in Brussels. On Wednesday, Executive Vice-President Teresa Ribera will deliver a speech at International Energy Agency (IEA) Ministerial’s Opening Plenary Panel, in Paris.
