Weekly European Agenda 22/06/2026

This week, the European Parliament committees will meet to discuss, among other priorities, European security, women’s rights and gender equality, anti-racism policies, and child protection. On Monday and Tuesday, agriculture and fisheries ministers, meeting in the Agriculture and Fisheries Council (AGRIFISH), will focus on the post-2027 Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), agricultural markets, sustainable fisheries, and the future of the Common Fisheries Policy. On Wednesday, EU Commissioners will gather in Brussels to present an omnibus on taxation and another on energy product legislation, and a law enforcement and criminal justice package, as well as a 2026 Convergence Report. On Thursday, environment ministers will discuss CO₂ emission standards for cars and vans, nature-based solutions, and preparations for COP31. On Friday, energy ministers, meeting in the Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council, will focus on the European Grids Package, the post-2030 energy framework, and energy prices and supply security.

European Parliament

On Monday, the Security and Defence Committee (SEDE) will focus on the future of European security with a debate on France’s nuclear doctrine, featuring Alice Rufo, Deputy Minister to the French Minister of the Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs. On Tuesday, the Women’s Rights and Gender Equality Committee (FEMM) will hold a hearing on gender oppression and violations of women's rights, examining the cases of Iranian and Kurdish women and addressing the broader issue of gender apartheid. On Wednesday, the Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs Committee (LIBE) will discuss the EU Anti-Racism Strategy for 2026–2030, as well as measures to combat the sexual abuse and exploitation of children, including the spread of child sexual abuse material online. 

Council of Ministers

On Monday and Tuesday, agriculture and fisheries ministers meeting in the Agriculture and Fisheries Council (AGRIFISH) will discuss the future of the post-2027 Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), review the latest market developments in the agricultural sector, and assess the impact of Russia’s war against Ukraine. Ministers will also exchange views on sustainable fishing, future fishing opportunities, and the ongoing evaluation of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP). On Thursday, environment ministers will meet to discuss progress on new CO₂ emission standards for cars and vans, the role of nature-based solutions in strengthening competitiveness, and the implementation of the EU’s water resilience strategy. They will also take stock of preparations for COP31, as the Cyprus Presidency seeks to reinforce the EU’s negotiating position ahead of the climate summit. On Friday, energy ministers meeting in the Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council will seek agreement on the European Grids Package and discuss the post-2030 energy framework. Ministers will also review the current energy price and supply situation in light of recent geopolitical developments affecting the Strait of Hormuz. 

European Commission and High Representative

On Monday, President Ursula von der Leyen will participate in the EU-Moldova Summit in Brussels. On the same day, High Representative Vice-President Kaja Kallas will attend the meeting of Ministers of the League of Arab States in Amman. On Wednesday, Executive Vice-President Roxana Mînzatu will participate as a speaker at the Women Political Leaders event in Brussels.
