Weekly European Agenda 29/06/2026

This week, the European Parliament’s committees will address, among other priorities, the future of the Common Agricultural Policy, the European Biotech Act, and accelerated permit-granting procedures for energy projects. On Monday, social policy ministers meeting in the Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council will focus on cyber violence against girls, housing and demographic change, fair labour mobility, and the EU Anti-Poverty Strategy. On Wednesday, EU Commissioners will gather in Brussels to present a Communication on the Defence Single Market, a Public Procurement Act, a European Innovation Act, and a Livestock Strategy. Later in the week, members of the College of Commissioners will travel to Ireland ahead of the start of the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU.

European Parliament

On Monday, the Agriculture and Rural Development Committee (AGRI) will discuss the future of the Common Agricultural Policy for 2028–2034, alongside issues including the EU school scheme, support linked to increased fertiliser prices, the 2027 EU budget, and rules on plant reproductive material. Also on Monday, the Public Health Committee (SANT) and the Industry, Research and Energy Committee (ITRE) will hold a joint debate on the European Biotech Act, focusing on measures to strengthen the EU’s biotechnology and biomanufacturing sectors, particularly in the area of health. On Thursday, ITRE will vote on accelerating permit-granting procedures under EU renewable energy, electricity and gas rules.

Council of Ministers

On Monday, ministers meeting in the Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council (EPSCO) will focus on social policy issues, including efforts to prevent and combat cyber violence against girls and the links between housing and demographic change. Ministers are also expected to address fair labour mobility through modernised social security coordination rules, as well as the implementation of the EU Anti-Poverty Strategy following the publication of the Commission’s Social Package. The Council will also hold a policy debate on housing security, with particular attention to students and middle-income households, while the Commission will present the European Semester Spring Package.

European Commission and High Representative

On Tuesday, High Representative Vice-President Kaja Kallas, together with Commissioner Marta Kos and Commissioner Magnus Brunner, will visit Türkiye. On Wednesday, Commissioner Costas Kadis will speak at the Committee of the Regions plenary debate on the Ocean Pact. On Thursday, Commissioner Piotr Serafin will open the ABC 2026 Conference. Also on Thursday, Commissioner Glenn Micallef will participate in the visit of the College of Commissioners to Ireland ahead of the start of the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU.
