Weekly European Agenda 06/07/2026

This week, the European Parliament will hold a plenary session in Strasbourg, where MEPs will discuss, among other priorities, the programme of activities of the Irish Presidency, the EU-UK Summit, foreign affairs issues, and the conclusions of the European Council meeting of 18–19 June 2026. On Monday, the Irish Presidency will host an informal meeting of employment and social affairs ministers in Ballina, County Mayo, focusing on shared employment and social policy priorities. On Tuesday, President Ursula von der Leyen will participate in the 2026 NATO Summit in Ankara and deliver a speech at the NATO Summit Defence Industry Forum. On Thursday and Friday, competitiveness ministers will meet informally in Dublin to address the future of a competitive, sustainable and consumer-focused Europe, including efforts to strengthen the Single Market and remove barriers for SMEs.

European Parliament

On Monday, MEPs will discuss air passenger rights and the annual report on the financial activities of the European Investment Bank Group. On Tuesday, they will debate the programme of activities of the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU, the EU-UK Summit, and foreign affairs issues with the Vice-President of the Commission/High Representative. On Wednesday, MEPs will discuss the conclusions of the European Council meeting of 18–19 June 2026, alongside breaches of human rights, democracy and the rule of law. On Thursday, they will debate the evaluation of the Common Fisheries Policy and its follow-up.

Council of Ministers

On Monday, the Irish Presidency will host an informal meeting of employment and social affairs ministers in Ballina, County Mayo, bringing together EU ministers, European Commission representatives and social partners to exchange views on shared employment and social policy priorities ahead of upcoming EPSCO Council meetings. On Thursday and Friday, competitiveness ministers will meet informally in Dublin to address the future of a competitive, sustainable and consumer-focused Europe, with discussions focusing on strengthening the Single Market, removing barriers for SMEs, supporting cross-border transactions and improving digital services.

European Commission and High Representative

On Monday, High Representative Vice-President Kaja Kallas will meet Mario Lubetkin, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay, in Brussels. On Tuesday, President Ursula von der Leyen will participate in the 2026 NATO Summit in Ankara and deliver a speech at the NATO Summit Defence Industry Forum. On Thursday, Commissioner Costas Kadis will speak at the European Parliament plenary debate on the evaluation of the Common Fisheries Policy and its follow-up in Strasbourg.
