EESC Civil Society Week 2026 – Panel: When the System Stops Delivering: Housing, Inequality and Europe’s Social Contract
The European Movement International (EMI) will moderate a panel exploring how Europe can reconnect with citizens amid rising inequality and declining trust. The session will draw on insights from the Horizon Europe Express2 project to discuss an inclusive, participatory social contract promoting equality, social justice, and sustainable development.

Thursday 05 March 

Justice and Home Affairs Council (Home Affairs)
Ministers will discuss the state of the Schengen area, focusing on the implementation of the 2025–2026 priorities, returns policy and the EU Visa Strategy. They will also address key migration issues, including the implementation of the Migration Pact and cooperation with transit countries. Over lunch, ministers will exchange views on the impact of the current geopolitical context on EU security and are expected to provide strategic guidance on the future of Europol. The Council will conclude by approving conclusions on the new EU Drugs Strategy.

Civil Society Week 2026, organised by the European Economic and Social Committee under the title “People, Democracy, Resilience – Our Future!” in Brussels, will bring together civil society representatives, policymakers and youth leaders to discuss democracy, inclusion and resilience in Europe. The edition will focus on building a Union of opportunities, security and resilience. On Monday, discussions will centre on a Union of opportunities, with debates on supporting people and strengthening our societies.

Tuesday 03 March

Civil Society Week 2026, organised by the European Economic and Social Committee under the title “People, Democracy, Resilience – Our Future!” in Brussels, will bring together civil society representatives, policymakers and youth leaders to discuss democracy, inclusion and resilience in Europe. The edition will focus on building a Union of opportunities, security and resilience. On Tuesday, the focus will be on a Union of security, with exchanges on protecting our democracy and upholding our values.

ECI Day 2026
The European Citizens’ Initiative Day will be held at the European Economic and Social Committee in Brussels as part of Civil Society Week. The event will bring together institutional representatives, ECI organisers and civil society to discuss the European Citizens’ Initiative and share best practices for successful campaigns.

Wednesday 04 March

Civil Society Week 2026, organised by the European Economic and Social Committee under the title “People, Democracy, Resilience – Our Future!” in Brussels, will bring together civil society representatives, policymakers and youth leaders to discuss democracy, inclusion and resilience in Europe. The edition will focus on building a Union of opportunities, security and resilience. On Wednesday, discussions will continue under the priority of a Union of security, addressing the protection of democratic institutions and the resilience of civic space.

Challenges for Women in Media – supporting and hindering factors
The EESC Equality Group will hold a conference in Brussels on Challenges for Women in Media to mark International Women’s Day 2026. The event will bring together experts, journalists and civil society representatives to discuss the factors supporting and hindering women in the media sector. The conference will feature three panels on structural barriers, threats to women journalists and conflict reporting, and female stereotypes and online violence.

Thursday 05 March

The EESC Permanent Group on Disability Rights will hold a hybrid public hearing in Brussels on Delivering Full Inclusion: which measures for the second half of the EU Disability Strategy? The event will feature insights from EU institutions and recommendations from civil society and disability organisations.

Tuesday 03 March 

High-level dialogue on the future of the Common Agriculture Policy and Rural Development
The Committee of the Regions will host an informal high-level dialogue in Brussels to discuss key issues and the potential impacts of the European Commission’s Multiannual Financial Framework proposals on the Common Agricultural Policy and rural development.

Stakeholder Consultation on the CoR opinion EU global climate and energy vision. Towards more inclusive climate and environment global negotiations
The Committee of the Regions will hold a stakeholder consultation in Brussels to gather input for its opinion on strengthening the role of local and regional authorities in UN climate and biodiversity negotiations.

Stakeholders’ consultation on the opinion “Generational renewal in agriculture”
The Committee of the Regions will hold a stakeholder consultation in Brussels on its opinion “Generational Renewal in Agriculture”, led by rapporteur Emiliano García-Page Sánchez, to gather views on supporting young and new farmers.

Stakeholder consultation on CoR opinion: Environmental Implementation review
The Committee of the Regions will hold a stakeholder consultation in Brussels on its opinion “Environmental Implementation Review”, examining obstacles for local and regional authorities in meeting EU environmental rules and identifying ways to streamline procedures and improve compliance.

Informal meeting of ministers for European Affairs
The Cyprus Presidency will host an informal meeting of EU ministers for European Affairs in Lefkosia. Discussions will focus on the 2028–2034 MFF, countering foreign information manipulation, and EU enlargement, with separate meetings with Ukraine and Moldova. Cultural activities will complement the sessions.

Thursday 05 March – Friday 06 March

Informal Meeting of Ministers of Culture
The Cyprus Presidency will host an informal meeting of EU ministers of Culture in Lefkosia. Discussions will focus on cultural rights and illicit trafficking of cultural goods, including the impact of digital technologies and AI on culture, and strategies to safeguard culture and combat trafficking.

Informal Meeting of the Trade Policy Committee (Services and Investment)
The Cyprus Presidency will host an informal meeting of the Trade Policy Committee on Services and Investment. Experts and officials will discuss EU trade policy priorities, focusing on services and investment issues.

Dutch Parliament – Roundtable discussion “on the weakening of European sustainability due diligence rules for companies”
The Standing Committee on Foreign Trade and Development Aid of the Dutch House of Representatives will hold a roundtable discussion in The Hage on the weakening of European sustainability due diligence rules for companies. 

Meeting with Catherine De Bolle
The European Ombudsman will meet in The Hague with Europol Executive Director, Ms. Catherine De Bolle, to discuss Europol’s activities and priorities.

The European Ombudsman will meet in Brussels with Albanian Ombudsman Dr Endrit Shabani. 

Panelist at College of Europe Annual LAW Conference: ‘Under Pressure: How the Erosion of the International Rules-Based Order Impacts EU Law’
The European Ombudsman will participate as a panelist in the session “Democracy under Pressure – The Role of Law” at the College of Europe Annual LAW Conference in Bruges, discussing the impact of the erosion of the international rules-based order on EU law.
