The Future of European Competitiveness: How should the EU invest in its future?
The European Movement International will host an online workshop on how the EU’s next long-term budget can support Europe’s competitiveness and economic future. A panel discussion with Sandra Parthie, President of the EESC Employers’ Group, and Maxime Staelens, Senior Advisor at SGI Europe, will explore how EU investment can strengthen research, innovation and strategic industries, and what role the proposed European Competitiveness Fund could play in mobilising investment and closing Europe’s innovation gap. The discussion will also consider how competitiveness priorities can be balanced with social cohesion, climate action and regional development. The event will conclude with a Q&A session. 10th EU-Republic of Moldova Association Council
The EU-Republic of Moldova Association Council will meet in Brussels for its 10th meeting, chaired by EU High Representative Kaja Kallas. Discussions will focus on Moldova’s EU accession process, political dialogue and reforms, including justice, freedom and security, as well as cooperation on foreign and security policy. The meeting will also address economic and sectoral cooperation, with particular attention to energy and trade, alongside an exchange on global and regional challenges.

EU’s Agri-Food Strategic Resilience
The EESC will host a public debate in Brussels on strengthening the resilience of the EU’s agri-food systems. The event will bring together experts and stakeholders to discuss how to reduce strategic dependencies, safeguard critical supply chains, maintain the viability of farms and food businesses, and secure access to essential resources in times of crisis. The discussion will also examine risk management, short supply chains, knowledge transfer and innovation, and will feed into the EESC’s work on agri-food strategic resilience requested by the upcoming Lithuanian Presidency.

Thursday 08 October

The Right to Food
The EESC will host a debate in Brussels on how the right to food can be translated into more sustainable food systems in the EU. Bringing together EESC members, the European Commission, FAO, social partners and food and environmental organisations, the discussion will examine how the principle can be integrated into future EU policies, the barriers to more sustainable food systems, and how to improve access to healthy food for all citizens. The debate will also include a presentation of the European Citizens’ Initiative on the right to food.

Committee of the Regions 


Monday 05 October 

The European dimension of regional security
The CoR will support an EU Local Dialogue in Słupsk bringing together young people, local and regional leaders, and educators to discuss the European dimension of regional security. The event will explore how EU, regional and local policies contribute to citizens’ security in the context of geopolitical tensions, the war in Ukraine and climate-related risks, while also highlighting the role of EU funding and local authorities in security-related initiatives.

Tuesday 06 October 

Stakeholder consultation on the Outermost Regions Package
The CoR will hold a stakeholder consultation in Brussels on the European Commission’s new Outermost Regions Package. Rapporteur Thibault Lechat-Vega (FR/PES) will gather views and feedback to support the preparation of his opinion, with discussions focusing on the ambition of the new strategy, the proposed regulatory package, remaining challenges facing the outermost regions, and its alignment with the EU’s future budgetary framework for 2028–2034.

Tuesday 06 October – Wednesday 07 October 

External ECON meeting and conference in Galway
The CoR’s Commission for Economic Policy (ECON) will meet in Galway to discuss key economic and industrial policy files, including the Industrial Maritime Strategy, the Chips Act 2.0 and the Cloud and AI Development Act. The meeting will be followed by a conference on sustainable trade, regional competitiveness and strong local economies, focusing on how regions can support innovation, productivity, indigenous enterprise, foreign investment and resilient local economies.

Wednesday 07 October

Agriculture and the Leading Role of Territories: Debating the Role of Regions in Shaping the European Common Agricultural Policy for the 2028–2034 Programming Period
The CoR will support a high-level conference in Bologna on the future of the Common Agricultural Policy for 2028–2034 and the role of regions in shaping its governance. Bringing together regional, national and European institutions and stakeholders from the agricultural and agri-food sectors, the event will explore the future of European agriculture and the contribution of territories and rural communities to EU agricultural policy.

Thursday 08 October

Europe’s skills revolution starts in its regions
The CoR will host an event in Brussels on the role of regional skills ecosystems in strengthening Europe’s competitiveness and resilience. The event will mark the launch of Cedefop’s Regional Skills Ecosystems index (RESET), a new tool comparing skills performance across 244 European regions. Participants will discuss the index’s findings, its policy implications and how data-informed decision-making can help strengthen regional skills and vocational education and training systems.

Irish Presidency 


Thursday 08 October – Friday 09 October

Informal meeting of Development Ministers
The Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU will host an informal meeting of EU development ministers in Dublin. Ministers will discuss the challenges facing development cooperation and the importance of the EU’s continued engagement with partner countries as a reliable and principled partner. The meeting will also provide space for strategic dialogue on building mutually beneficial partnerships ahead of the formal Foreign Affairs Council (Development) in December.

The European Ombudsman will deliver a keynote speech at the Annual Conference of the Luxembourg Centre for European Law in Luxembourg. The conference will explore the extent to which EU law can effectively respond to the challenges facing European society.
