Launch of the EAPN 2024 Poverty Watch Report
The European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN) will launch its latest Poverty Watch Report, “Towards a systemic approach to social protection”, at an event co-organised by the EAPN and the EESC Civil Society Organisations’ Group. Poverty has remained at considerable levels in Europe in recent years whilst progress towards meeting the EU’s 2030 poverty reduction targets remained limited. In this report, EAPN tries to highlight the need for significantly systemic efforts. Additionally, EAPN shares an update of the persistent poverty rates, in its various manifestations.

Conference on ‘Towards an EU action plan on rare diseases”
The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), the Polish Ministry of Health, and the Medical University of Warsaw is holding a major conference entitled Towards an EU Action Plan on Rare Diseases. The conference will take place under the auspices of the Polish Presidency of the EU Council and will serve as a key milestone in ongoing efforts to shape an effective and comprehensive European strategy on rare diseases.

During the meeting, the Polish presidency will present, among other things, the results of an analysis commissioned by the Polish Ministry of Culture on the situation of young artists on the labour market in EU countries. The Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine has been invited to the meeting.

Informal meeting of the EU Ministers for Economic and Financial Affairs and Central Bank Governors (ECOFIN)
The informal ECOFIN Council will focus on defence financing, summarising the discussions on this topic held since the start of the Polish presidency. Other key topics will include financial markets (with Central Bank Governors) and the current geopolitical situation.

Seminar on the role of civil society in fundamental rights, the rule of law and democracy
FRA and the Permanent Representation of the Polish Presidency will hold a seminar for experts on the role of civil society in defending fundamental rights, the rule of law and democracy. The seminar will bring FREMP delegates from the Council of the EU’s Working Party on Fundamental Rights, Citizens Rights and Free Movement of Persons (FREMP), and Justice Councillors from EU capitals.

Consulting on the LGBTIQ Equality Strategy post 2025
FRA will join a consultation that will prepare for the LGBTIQ Equality Strategy post-2025. This will include a discussion on the new mandate of the LGBTIQ Equality Subgroup and on the role of Member States in implementing the strategy through national action plans and relations with the European Commission.

Judges from Ukraine’s Constitutional Court to visit FRA
A delegation of judges from the Constitutional Court of Ukraine will visit the Agency on 10 April. This visit is organised by the OSCE Support Programme to Ukraine.

The European Investment Bank (EIB) together with the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) are organising a high-level event to discuss the investment needs of cities across Europe with a view to informing the preparation of the Commission’s policy agenda for cities. This joint event will kick-off with the launch of the EIB Municipalities Report 2025 with new evidence on the investment needs from over 1,000 municipalities across the EU.
