Enlargement and the Future EU Budget: Investing in Candidate Countries
The European Movement International will host an online event focused on the role of the EU budget in supporting enlargement and investment in candidate countries. The discussion will examine how EU funding can support reforms, strengthen institutions and prepare candidate countries for membership, while also considering the opportunities and challenges that enlargement creates for both current Member States and future members. The panel will bring together Mathieu Bousquet, Director for Enlargement Coordination, Strategy and Investments at DG ENEST, MEP Vladimir Prebilič, and Joško Klisović, Member of the Zagreb City Assembly and CoR Rapporteur on the Global Europe Instrument. Moderated by Marija Mihailovic, Project and Partnerships Officer at the European Movement International, the event will include a panel discussion followed by a Q&A session. The role of organised civil society in improving financial literacy: existing initiatives and public policies
The European Economic and Social Committee will host a debate in Brussels on the role of organised civil society in improving financial literacy and supporting a Savings and Investments Union that benefits EU citizens. Bringing together EU policymakers and civil society organisations, the event will provide an opportunity to exchange views on the implementation of the Strategy on financial literacy, existing initiatives and policy proposals. Discussions will also focus on what organisations need from policymakers to increase their impact and strengthen financial literacy across the EU. The event will be webstreamed and open to all interested stakeholders.

The Multiannual Financial Framework after 2027 – Assessing progress and outstanding challenges
The European Economic and Social Committee will host a public debate in Brussels on the negotiations for the EU’s Multiannual Financial Framework after 2027. The event will take stock of developments since the Commission presented its proposals, including the positions emerging from the Council, European Council and European Parliament. Discussions will focus on the progress made so far, the main outstanding challenges and the path towards agreement on a long-term EU budget capable of responding to future priorities. The event will be webstreamed and open to all interested stakeholders.

Closing conference: “Preserving the Past – Securing the Future”: A Sustainable Approach to Cultural and Remembrance Heritage
The Committee of the Regions will host the closing conference of the Preserving the Past – Securing the Future project in Brussels. Bringing together heritage professionals, policymakers, tourism stakeholders, researchers and sustainability experts, the conference will reflect on two years of work to integrate environmental, social and economic sustainability into museums, memorials and remembrance tourism. Discussions will focus on lessons learned from pilot activities, transferable good practices and how the project’s practical experience can inform future policy and practice. The event will also showcase case studies, practical tools and evidence-based recommendations for heritage practitioners and policymakers, followed by an optional visit to the House of European History.

10th CIVEX Commission meeting and external conference
In its 10th meeting, the CIVEX Commission will vote on opinions on the Pact for the Mediterranean, the ProtectEU agenda to prevent and counter terrorism, and sustainable solutions for displaced Ukrainians in the EU. Members will also exchange views on simplifying and improving the enforcement of EU rules. The meeting will bring together CIVEX members to examine key issues related to migration, security, external relations and better regulation, and will be followed by the annual external conference on democratic resilience.

Europe Is You: Young Feminist Leadership and the Institutions Within Reach
The Committee of the Regions will host the conference “Europe Is You: Young Feminist Leadership and the Institutions Within Reach” as part of the European Women’s Lobby’s AGORA Summer School 2026. The event will bring together young feminist leaders and representatives of European institutions to discuss the current gender equality landscape in Europe, including the Roadmap for Women’s Rights and the EU Gender Equality Strategy 2026–2030. Through an interactive panel discussion and networking opportunities, participants will explore how European institutions shape women’s rights, learn about concrete pathways for civic and political engagement, and connect with women working to advance gender equality across Europe.

Irish Presidency 

Monday 07 September – Tuesday 08 September 

Informal meeting of Agriculture ministers
The Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU will host an informal meeting of EU agriculture ministers in Dublin. The meeting will bring together ministers, the European Commission and senior officials to discuss key priorities for the future of European agriculture, with a particular focus on the role of livestock. Discussions will examine how livestock farming and food production can remain sustainable, competitive and resilient, while supporting food security, generational renewal and rural communities.
