Debates: Public hearing on strengthening media freedom, freedom of expression and safety of journalists; Exchange of views on Child-Friendly Justice in Criminal Matters – Children as Victims, Witnesses and Offenders.

Council of Ministers 


Thursday 12 June

Justice and Home Affairs Council
The presidency is aiming to achieve a general approach on a directive to harmonise certain aspects of insolvency law. Ministers are also planning to reach a (partial) general approach on a draft law that will guarantee the rights of adults who need protection or support. Ministers will also be updated on the most recent developments regarding the fight against impunity regarding crimes committed in connection with the war in Ukraine.

Friday 13 June

Justice and Home Affairs Council
Ministers will receive a state of play regarding the development of the EU’s border management and law enforcement interoperable IT infrastructure. Ministers will also exchange views, in light of the Commission’s State of Schengen report, on the priorities for the Schengen area for the next twelve months. Finally, The Council will exchange views on the European internal security strategy (ProtectEU) which the Commission presented on 1 April this year.

Commissioner Cristophe Hansen will meet with Yoichi Watanabe, Vice-Minister for International Affairs at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan, in Tokyo.

Serafin meets with the Marshals of all the Polish regions
Commissioner Piotr Serafin will meet with the Marshals of all the Polish regions, in Krakow. 

Micallef meets with members of the Board of Europa Nostra Heritage Network
Commissioner Glenn Micallef will meet with members of the Board of Europa Nostra Heritage Network, in Valletta.

Commissioner Piotr Serafin will meet with Alain Hutchinson, the Brussels Commissioner for Europe and International Organisations, in Brussels.

Commissioner Cristophe Hansen will meet with Toru Yamano, chairman of the Central Union of Agricultural Cooperatives of Japan (JA-Zenchu), in Tokyo.

Commissioner Glenn Micallef will participate in the Youth Policy Dialogue, in Strasbourg.

20th meeting of the EU-China Round Table
The delegations of the EESC and its Chinese counterpart, the CESC, will discuss the following topics: The EU’s Global Gateway Strategy and China’s Belt and Road Initiative: bridging global investment and connectivity gaps and Strengthening EU-China cooperation for climate action and finance at COP30.

Tuesday 10 June

Economic Impact of the Implementation of the EU Emissions Trading System
The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is organising a public hearing to assess the economic impact of extending the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) to the maritime sector. The hearing will focus on the risks of carbon and business leakage, and how these developments may affect port competitiveness and trade flows- particularly in smaller and peripheral EU Member States.

Civil Society’s Perspectives on Strengthening the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights
This event is part of a broader process aimed at gathering insights and feedback from the central stakeholder groups of the Charter strategy. This meeting will give participants the opportunity to feed into future EU policies on fundamental rights by sharing their views on past and future measures.

Wednesday 11 June

Delivering affordable energy in Europe
This conference will shed light on the much needed efforts to give citizens the power to be actively engaged, and make energy production more inclusive and affordable, including in rural areas. The 2025 annual conference will look at: How to ensure that the EC Action Plan for Affordable Energy drives a just transition responding to the rising geopolitical and environmental challenges and How policy makers can involve and activate SMEs, households and vulnerable citizens, making them primary actors of the EU green and competitive transformation.

This event highlights the key role of the InFLAMES and Marseille Immunology Biocluster (MIB) initiatives. Organised by the University of Turku, Åbo Akademi University, and Aix-Marseille Université, and hosted by the European Committee of the Regions.

Meeting of the European Platform on Combatting Homelessness
The European Platform on Combatting Homelessness (“the Platform”), established by the Lisbon Declaration (June 2021), provides guidance and support in the fight against homelessness.

FRA joins Spanish EU Fundamental Rights Charter conference
FRA will take part in a conference in Madrid on the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights 25 years after the Charter’s proclamation. The event will also deal with the challenging context of increased polarisation in society.
