Council of Ministers 


Tuesday 16 September

General Affairs Council
The Council will start preparations for the European Council meeting of 23-24 October by discussing an annotated draft agenda. In a public session, the Commission will present a letter of intent and ministers will hold an exchange of views on EU’s legislative programming. As part of the Council’s annual rule of law dialogue, ministers will also hold a discussion on general developments related to the rule of law in the EU.

Thursday 18 September

Environment Council
EU environment ministers will seek to reach an agreement (‘general approach’) on a proposal to amend the European climate law to establish a binding intermediate climate target for 2040. Ministers will also seek to approve the EU’s updated 2035 nationally determined contribution (NDC) to be submitted to the UNFCCC, the UN climate convention.

Accessible and Affordable Housing for All
The EESC’s Permanent Group on disability Rights is organising a hybrid public hearing on “Accessible and Affordable Housing for All: Ensuring Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in the EU “. This event will feature insights from EU institutions, showcase good practices at the local level, and highlight recommendations from civil society and disability organisations.

Monday 15 September

The Future meets Europe: Music, Sport and Culture
The project stems from the desire to translate the founding principles of the European Committee of the Regions into concrete experience, promoting social cohesion, civic participation and the enhancement of local communities as pillars of European integration. Through music, sport and culture, universal languages capable of breaking down barriers and stimulating empathy, the event aims to strengthen the sense of European belonging, promote intergenerational dialogue and build networks between citizens, institutions and territories.

Wednesday 17 September

EU funding for better connectivity and preparedness of Swedish regions
The region of Skåne, Sweden demonstrates the importance of infrastructure and connectivity for local and regional communities. This Local Dialogue is supported by the European Committee of the Regions.

Thursday 18 September

EU Local Dialogue: Is Europe crisis-proof?
This debate, organised by Erika von Kalben (DE/The Greens) looks into Europe’s resilience in times of crisis.

Danish Presidency 


Monday 15 September – Tuesday 16 September

Informal meeting of health ministers
Ministers will, among other things, discuss the EU’s life sciences strategy and the strategy for medical countermeasures. The discussions are intended to focus on how to ensure the continued high quality of the health sector while considering a future across Europe that includes more chronic patients, more elderly, and fewer people to care for the sick.

Friday 19 September

Informal meeting of economic and financial affairs ministers
All the EU’s ministers for economic affairs and finance, the EU’s central bank governors as well as long host of the EU’s economic institutions are invited to a two-day meeting in Copenhagen to discuss economic policymaking in the EU.
