3rd Civil Society Forum – EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement
The European Commission is organising the third Civil Society Forum of the EU-UK trade and cooperation agreement (TCA) at EESC premises, in Brussels. Participation is open to civil society organisations representing employers’ organisations, workers’ representatives, NGOs and academics. The agenda for this third meeting of the CSF includes trade in goods, level playing field, regulatory cooperation, trade in services & energy.

25th COTER commission meeting (external) and conference on “Forging a sustainable and secure future together—place-based solutions for global challenges”
At this COTER meeting, members will be voting the following opinions: “The future of European Territorial Cooperation (ETC) post-2027”; “A renewed Cohesion policy post 2027 that leaves no one behind”; “EU budget and place-based policies: proposals for new design and delivery mechanisms in the MFF post-2027”; “Solving obstacles to the cooperation of emergency services in the EU’s border regions”; “How to exploit the full potential of cohesion policy to tackle demographic change”.

Hungarian Presidency


Monday 16 September – Tuesday 17 September

Informal Meeting of Higher Education and Research Ministers
The agenda of the ministerial meeting includes the strengthening of the European research and innovation competitiveness and overcoming the fragmentation of the ERA. The outcome of the meeting will be considered during the preparation for the Council conclusions on this issue. During the meeting, the Presidency will seek opinions and guidance from Ministers in order to contribute to the Council’s position on the concept of the European degree. 

Thursday 19 September – Friday 20 September 

Informal meeting of transport ministers
The topic of the first session of the informal meeting is the improvement of the EU transport sector’s competitiveness, with a discussion of the improvement of connectivity between the EU and neighbouring countries, challenges and opportunities arising from greening transport and from digitalization in transport, and future transport funding opportunities. During the second session, the participants will focus on the railway sector, discussing what measures and strategies are needed to establish a high-speed rail network, improve connections between rural and urban areas, and mobilize resources necessary to enhance the sector’s competitiveness.

FRA will present its project ‘Digitalisation of justice: fundamental rights guidance’ at a meeting of the Council of the European Union’s e-justice Working Party.

Key actors meet to discuss the future of the civic space within the EU
Over 60 key actors working on civic space monitoring, promotion and protection in Europe will come together at FRA to discuss civic space monitoring. From 16 to 18 September, they will discuss the overall landscape and who is doing what with respect to monitoring. The experts will represent EU institutions, international organisations, civil society organisations, NHRIs, academia and donors.

Friday 20 September

Fundamental Rights Charter awareness raising session
There will be an awareness training session on the implementation of the EU’s Fundamental Rights Charter. FRA will introduce the EU Charter and its implications for EU legislators.

FRA joins UN Summit for the Future Action Days
FRA will take part in the UN Summit for the Future Action Days side event on empowering the future, making social rights of youth real. The Council of Europe organised the event that will take place on 20 September in New York. FRA will also participate in the session on a sustainable future for all.

United Nations Summit of the Future Action Days
The 4th Summit of the Council of Europe and the UN’s Our Common Agenda Policy Brief 3 emphasize the importance of youth participation in decision-making processes. As youth demand more just and equitable solutions, addressing challenges in terms of their social rights like unemployment, inadequate education, housing, and social exclusion is increasingly urgent. The main organiser and sponsor of the side event is the Council of Europe. The event is co-sponsored by Andorra, Lithuania, Mexico, the Kingdom of Morocco, in partnership with the International Labour Office, the European Union Fundamental Rights Agency and the European Youth Forum.
