European Movement International — Strengthening the EU-Canada relationship in response to Trump’s isolationism

Do you want a European Movement Canada?

Why are we asking for this mass sign-up?

Because the European Movement stands for democracy, peace, unity and solidarity, respect for human rights and the rule of law; the very values that Canadians and Europeans alike hold dear.

So, we want to see if there’s enough appetite for a European Movement Canada. If there is, then we can work with politicians across the political spectrum, as well as stakeholders and citizens from across society, in order to set up a powerful community to bring together Canada and the EU, as well as individual European countries, to build a closer partnership for the defence of the values we share.

We want you to have a massive stake in both that community and that agenda.

So please sign up to show if you are interested in being part of that effort!

We will send you email updates about progress, keeping you in the loop all the way.

What would a European Movement Canada look like?

Our ambition is to build a Movement that brings together Canadians from all walks of life and political persuasions, an organisation with sustainable financing and a broad set of activities aimed at promoting the values of the European Movement and bringing Canada and Europe together in defence of those values.

Those interested to be part of these efforts will be invited to join a Preparatory Committee, based on their skills, experience and networks. The European Movement International will provide the Preparatory Committee with advice in setting up a legal entity and establishing an independent governance structure. It will offer support and knowhow on stakeholder engagement, community building and fundraising.

Our objective for the first 12 months is to have an organisation with full time staff, able to raise funds and pursue its policy and advocacy objectives, set in collaboration with the European Movement International.

Could Canada join the EU?

The decision on who to admit into the European Union rests with the EU and its Member States.

Our objective is to ensure that Canada and Europe are closely aligned, to strengthen the cultural, political and trade links between them and to ensure that they remain bulwarks against the rise of authoritarianism, imperialism and isolationism.

If one the day the people of Canada and their government wish to apply for EU membership, in pursuit of the above objectives, the European Movement will support that aspiration.
