Weekly European Agenda 24/07/2023

This week, no parliamentary meetings are scheduled in the European Parliament, which will resume its activities in the end of August. On Tuesday, the Agriculture and Fisheries Council meeting will take place, during which the Spanish Presidency will give a presentation of its work programme and outline its main priorities, while ministers are expected to discuss the market situation in light of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Commissioner Kadri Simson will deliver a keynote speech at the Connecting Green Hydrogen APAC 2023 Conference in Melbourne on Wednesday.



European Parliament

The committees of the European Parliament will be in recess from 28 July until 21 August. Committee meetings will resume in the week of 28 August. 

Council of Ministers

During an informal ministerial meeting on consumer affairs and industry and internal market on Monday, ministers will take part in different working groups, including one on open strategic autonomy. In the informal ministerial meeting on competitiveness on Thursday and Friday, ministers will take part in two working sessions entitled “The role of scientific diplomacy” and “Second Strategic Plan for Horizon Europe (2025-27)”. An informal ministerial meeting EPSCO will also take place on the same days where ministers will discuss how to improve mental health in the EU among other topics.  

European Commission and High Representative

On Monday, Commissioner Kadri Simson will deliver a message at the opening session of the 18th conference of the International Association for Energy Economics, while on Thursday, Commissioner Thierry Breton will deliver a keynote speech at the Salzburg Summit 2023 ‘Future Now. Resources for Europe’.
