Weekly European Agenda 21/10/2024
This week, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) will meet in Strasbourg for Plenary debates and votes on several issues, including on a resolution on establishing the Ukraine Loan Cooperation Mechanism and providing exceptional macro-financial assistance to Ukraine. On Monday and Tuesday, ministers in the Agriculture and Fisheries Council will seek to reach a political agreement on next year’s fishing opportunities in the Baltic Sea. Also on Tuesday, EU Commissioners will meet in Strasbourg to unveil the communication on the European Research Area.
European Parliament
On Monday, Members of the European Parliament will receive a presentation of the report ‘Much More Than a Market’ from Enrico Letta, followed by a debate on empowering the Single Market to deliver a sustainable future and prosperity for all EU citizens. On Tuesday, MEPs will hold a debate on the urgent need for a ceasefire in Lebanon and for safeguarding the UNIFIL mission in light of the recent attacks and on the protection of European journalists reporting on Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.
Council of Ministers
On Monday and Tuesday, ministers in the Agriculture and Fisheries Council will seek to reach a political agreement on next year’s fishing opportunities in the Baltic Sea. Fisheries ministers will also hold an exchange of views ahead of this year's annual meeting of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT).
European Commission and High Representative
On Monday, President Ursula von der Leyen will meet with Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, in Strasbourg. On the same day, Commissioner Vĕra Jourová will speak at the conference Artificial Intelligence in the Judiciary – Challenges and Disappointment, in Prague. On Thursday, Commissioner Ylva Johansson will participate in the G20 Anti-Corruption Ministerial Meeting, in Brazil.
