Weekly European Agenda 02/03/2026

This week, several European Parliament committee meetings will take place in Brussels to debate and vote on key issues. On Monday, European Movement International (EMI) will host a panel for the EESC Civil Society Week exploring how Europe can reconnect with citizens amid rising inequality and declining trust. On Monday and Tuesday, the Cypriot Presidency will host an informal meeting of ministers for European Affairs to discuss the next MFF and EU enlargement. On Wednesday, EU Commissioners will gather in Brussels to discuss the Industrial Accelerator Act, EU industrial and ports strategies, and key social initiatives. On Thursday, ministers will meet in the Justice and Home Affairs Council to discuss Schengen, migration, EU security, and the EU Drugs Strategy.



European Parliament

On Monday, the Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) Committee will debate the European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) to ban conversion practices and discuss AI and media pluralism. On the same day, the Budgetary Control (CONT) Committee will vote on the 2024 EU budget discharges and discuss Horizon Europe 2028–2034. On Thursday, the Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRI) Committee will discuss the Common Agricultural Policy 2028–2034 and the European Competitiveness Fund, while the Culture and Education (CULT) Committee will vote on simplifying AI rules.

Council of Ministers

On Monday and Tuesday, the Cypriot presidency will hold an informal meeting of European Affairs Ministers to discuss the next MFF, countering foreign information manipulation, and EU enlargement. On Thursday, ministers of the Justice and Home Affairs Council will meet to discuss the state of the Schengen area, focusing on the implementation of the 2025–2026 priorities, returns policy and the EU Visa Strategy. They will also address key migration issues and provide strategic guidance on the future of Europol.

European Commission and High Representative

On Monday, President Ursula von der Leyen will receive Guy Parmelin, President of the Swiss Confederation, for the signature of a broad package of EU-Switzerland agreements in Brussels. On Wednesday, High Representative/Vice-President Kaja Kallas will attend the Council of the Baltic Sea States Foreign Ministerial Meeting in Warsaw. On Thursday, Commissioner Hadja Lahbib will participate in the International Women’s Day 2026 event organised by the FEMM Committee at the European Parliament in Brussels.
