Weekly European Agenda 08/06/2026

This week, the European Parliament committees will meet to discuss, among other priorities, migration and border governance, the implementation of the Artificial Intelligence Act, and preparations for the EU's 2027 budget. On Monday and Tuesday, ministers meeting in the Transport, Telecommunications and Energy (TTE) Council will address transport decarbonisation, digital sovereignty, and the EU's competitiveness in critical technologies and satellite connectivity. On Wednesday, EU Commissioners will gather in Brussels to unveil the draft 2027 EU budget, alongside an Islands and Coastal Communities Package. On Friday, ministers in the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) are expected to examine a strengthened Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), economic governance, and progress on business taxation.

European Parliament

On Monday, the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) will examine the impact of Islamic extremism on the European way of life and discuss future EU support for asylum, migration, integration, border management and visa policies for the 2028–2034 period. Members will also meet within the Joint Working Group on the implementation and enforcement of the Artificial Intelligence Act. Also on Monday, the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE), jointly with the Committee on International Trade (INTA) will hold a joint meeting on the monitoring and control of drug precursors. On Wednesday, the Committee on Budgets (BUDG) will hear a presentation of the Draft Budget 2027 by Piotr Serafin, Commissioner for Budget, Anti-Fraud and Public Administration.

Council of Ministers

Ministers meeting in the Transport, Telecommunications and Energy (TTE) Council will gather over two days to address transport and digital priorities. On Monday, they will review progress on clean corporate vehicles, discuss transport decarbonisation beyond 2030, and adopt conclusions on maritime and ports strategies, while taking stock of ongoing transport legislation. On Tuesday, ministers will seek agreement on the European Business Wallets regulation and assess progress on the Digital Networks Act and the cybersecurity package. Discussions will also cover technological sovereignty, critical digital dependencies, and satellite connectivity. On Friday, finance ministers meeting in the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) are expected to agree on a strengthened Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). They will also examine the market integration and supervision package, the Commission’s 2026 European Semester Spring Package, and the economic impact of Russia’s war against Ukraine. In addition, they will take decisions under the Stability and Growth Pact, approve Recovery and Resilience Facility measures for five Member States, and adopt conclusions on business taxation.

European Commission and High Representative

On Monday, Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas will attend the TTE (Transport) Council in Luxemburg.  On Wednesday, High Representative Vice-President Kaja Kallas will meet Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, in Brussels. On Thursday, Commissioner Ekaterina Zaharieva will meet with Heleen Herbert, Minister of Economic Affairs of the Netherlands, in Amsterdam.
