Restoring Trust and Combating Populism (EXPRESS2 project)
The European Movement International will host an on-line event focused on strengthening trust between EU institutions and citizens, while addressing populism, disinformation, and democratic resilience. The session will begin with a keynote address by Ms. Constantin, Member of Cabinet of Commissioner McGrath. Ms. Constantin will present the Commission’s work in defense of democracy, focusing on the European Democracy Shield. The second part will feature an interactive Q&A and group discussions, which will focus on key areas such as transparency and accountability, media literacy, and safeguards against foreign interference in democratic processes. Participants will also reflect on findings from the opinion poll on trust and populism across Europe. The event will conclude with jointly developed recommendations to reinforce institutional trust and democratic resilience, contributing to the draft of a new European Social Contract. Monday 08 June 

Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council (Transport) (TTE)
Ministers in the Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council (Transport) will review progress on the proposed regulation on clean corporate vehicles, which would set national targets for the uptake of zero- and low-emission vehicles in large corporate fleets. They will also exchange views on transport decarbonisation beyond 2030, focusing on the sector’s contribution to the EU’s goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2040. The Council is expected to adopt conclusions on a maritime industrial strategy and an EU ports strategy aimed at strengthening competitiveness, supporting the energy transition and increasing Europe’s maritime leadership. Ministers will also receive updates on transport coordination measures, ongoing legislative files, including roadworthiness and vehicle dimension rules, air passenger rights, and the Commission’s recently presented passenger package.

Tuesday 09 June 

Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council (Transport) (TTE)
Ministers in the Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council (Transport) will seek agreement on the proposed regulation establishing European Business Wallets, a harmonised digital solution designed to simplify administrative procedures and enable secure data exchange for businesses and public authorities across the EU. They will also review progress on the Digital Networks Act and the cybersecurity package, which aim to strengthen Europe’s digital infrastructure, resilience and competitiveness. Ministers will exchange views on the technological sovereignty of Europe’s public administrations and discuss ways to reduce strategic dependencies in critical digital technologies. In addition, ministers will debate how to strengthen cooperation between the EU and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to support an inclusive, secure and sustainable digital transformation. Over lunch, discussions will focus on ensuring the EU’s competitiveness and sovereignty in satellite connectivity.

Friday 12 June 

Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN)
Ministers in the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) are expected to agree on a strengthened Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), extending its scope to additional downstream products and introducing new measures to prevent circumvention. The Council will also hold a policy debate on the market integration and supervision package, a key component of the EU’s Savings and Investment Union, and discuss the Commission’s 2026 European Semester Spring Package. Ministers are expected to take decisions under the Stability and Growth Pact and exchange views on the economic and financial impact of Russia’s war against Ukraine. In addition, the Council will adopt Recovery and Resilience Facility decisions for Belgium, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia and Spain. Tax-related items include the approval of the biannual ECOFIN report to the European Council and conclusions on progress made by the Code of Conduct Group on business taxation.

The EESC will host a public hearing entitled “United in Diversity: Roma Inclusion and Our Shared European Culture”, organised by the Permanent Group on Inclusion of the Roma. The event will bring together policymakers and civil society representatives to discuss the role of Roma culture in shaping a shared European identity. Participants will also explore ways to increase the visibility of Roma contributions to culture, media and education across the European Union.

The Second Annual All-Island Stakeholder Forum
The EESC’s EU-UK Follow-Up Committee will host the second Annual All-Island Stakeholder Forum in Dublin under the theme “Reset and Recharge: All-island contributions to a resilient EU-UK relationship”. Bringing together representatives of businesses, workers and civil society from across the island of Ireland, the forum will provide a platform to discuss shared challenges and opportunities in the post-Brexit context. The event will feature keynote addresses, plenary sessions and breakout discussions, with participants contributing recommendations to support future EU-UK relations and inform policymakers at both European and national level.

Thursday 11 June 

Delivering intergenerational solidarity
The European Economic and Social Committee, in cooperation with the Basque Government, will host a conference on “Delivering Intergenerational Solidarity: The Role of Services of General Interest”. The event will explore how public services such as healthcare, housing, transport, energy and social services can help promote fairness and cohesion across generations. The conference will highlight the importance of services of general interest in fostering social inclusion and equal opportunities for people of all ages. Discussions will also contribute to the European Commission’s ongoing work on its Intergenerational Fairness Strategy by identifying practical recommendations to strengthen solidarity between generations.

The future of the European battery industry
The European Economic and Social Committee will host a high-level debate on “The Future of the European Battery Industry”. Held in the context of the European Commission’s Battery Booster Strategy and broader efforts to strengthen Europe’s competitiveness, resilience and strategic autonomy, the discussion will examine the challenges and opportunities facing the European battery sector. Participants from industry, policymaking and civil society will explore emerging technologies, including sodium batteries, and discuss ways to expand manufacturing capacity, attract investment and develop a competitive, circular and autonomous battery value chain in Europe. The event comes amid growing concerns over energy security and global energy price volatility, highlighting the strategic importance of energy storage solutions for the EU.

ARLEM-CIVEX Stakeholder Consultation on the Implementation of the Pact for the Mediterranean
The CoR will hold a stakeholder consultation on the implementation of the Pact for the Mediterranean. The meeting, organised in the context of the report on Territorial Perspectives for the Pact, will bring together ARLEM co-rapporteurs, along with the CIVEX Chair. The consultation will gather key stakeholders, including representatives of the European Commission, the Union for the Mediterranean, and local and regional authorities, to discuss the CoR opinion on “The Pact for the Mediterranean: One Sea, One Pact, One Future”.

12th ARLEM Commission Meeting
The 12th ARLEM Commission Meeting, will bring together members from the EU and the Eastern and Southern Mediterranean, alongside high-level speakers. Discussions will focus on the ARLEM annual thematic report on the implementation of the Pact for the Mediterranean. Representatives from EU institutions, the Union for the Mediterranean, municipalities and regional authorities will share experiences and insights on strengthening cooperation across the region.

Tuesday 09 June

10th meeting of the OECD Public Communication Network Communicating (for) government delivery: people centred approaches in a complex information environment
The Committee of the Regions will host the 10th meeting of the OECD Public Communication Network, titled “Communicating (for) Government Delivery: People-Centred Approaches in a Complex Information Environment”. The meeting will bring together public communication officials from OECD member and partner countries, alongside experts and non-governmental stakeholders, to exchange experiences on how communication can strengthen policy delivery, improve public governance, and build trust. Discussions will focus on how people-centred communication can help governments engage citizens in an increasingly complex information environment shaped by digital platforms, AI, and evolving media consumption. The event will explore innovative approaches to fostering dialogue, addressing public concerns, and supporting the implementation of reforms.

9th CIVEX commission meeting
In its 9th meeting, the CIVEX Commission will vote on the opinion on the European Democracy Shield and hold exchanges of views on decentralised cooperation, the Pact for the Mediterranean, and counter-terrorism. The agenda also includes discussions on the importance of decentralised cooperation and city diplomacy in fragile settings, as well as the ProtectEU agenda to prevent and counter terrorism. The meeting will bring together CIVEX members to examine key issues related to democracy, security and external relations in the EU.

The conference will explore how public communication can help rebuild trust, strengthen dialogue and foster a sense of belonging in an increasingly fragmented information environment. The programme will focus on three key dimensions: connecting people, places and times, with a cross-cutting “digital mirror” exploring the dual role of technology in both connecting and dividing societies.

The European Public Communication Conference 2026, the EU’s largest annual gathering of public communication experts, will take place in Brussels under the theme “Be connectors: creating proximity in a fragmented world”, communicators, policymakers and practitioners. The conference will explore how public communication can help rebuild trust, strengthen dialogue and foster a sense of belonging in an increasingly fragmented information environment. The programme will focus on three key dimensions: connecting people, places and times, with a cross-cutting “digital mirror” exploring the dual role of technology in both connecting and dividing societies.

BorderLabs CE Final event: Towards a Central European Territorial Agenda?
The BorderLabs CE Final Event, titled “Towards a Central European Territorial Agenda?”, will take place in Brussels as a side event of the annual European Cross-Border Platform meeting. Hosted at the European Committee of the Regions, the conference marks the closing of the Interreg Central Europe-supported BorderLabs CE project, led by the Saxon State Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development and its partners. The event will provide a platform to discuss the future of territorial integration in Central Europe, featuring keynote interventions, round-table discussions and the launch of a new Charter promoting a shared spatial vision for the region. Participants will explore approaches to cross-border spatial planning, participatory governance and the removal of legal and administrative barriers.

Bringing Cohesion Closer: European Summit of Local Intermediate Authorities
The Committee of the Regions is organising the European Summit of Local Intermediate Authorities, titled “Bringing Cohesion Closer”. The event will bring together European provincial leaders, Members of the European Parliament, and representatives of EU institutions to discuss the future of Cohesion Policy and the next Multiannual Financial Framework. The summit will highlight the strategic role of Local Intermediate Authorities in the design, governance and implementation of EU funding. Discussions will focus on strengthening a place-based approach to Cohesion Policy and ensuring that European investments deliver concrete results across all territories.

The European Committee of the Regions will host the high-level seminar “Regions Connect: Innovation, Sustainability & Global Cooperation” in Brussels. The event will bring together local and regional authorities, EU policymakers, international experts and industry representatives to discuss regional innovation, territorial cooperation and environmental sustainability in the context of the European Green Deal. Across four thematic sessions, participants will explore key priorities including the green and digital transition of tourism, the reduction of aquatic pollution, the development of circular economy solutions, and the strengthening of global cooperation frameworks. The seminar will highlight practical regional initiatives and policy approaches aimed at supporting sustainable development and fostering international partnerships.

Informal meeting of Defence ministers
The Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU will host an informal meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council (Defence) in Lefkosia. The meeting will bring together EU defence ministers to discuss key priorities under the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP). Discussions will focus on current and emerging security challenges, with particular emphasis on defence readiness and coordinated EU responses in an evolving security environment.

The European Ombudsman will speak at the European Summit of Women Leaders in Science and Technology 2026, hosted by the Perspektywy Education Foundation in Brussels. The Summit has rapidly established itself as a unique high-level platform bringing together over 100 of Europe’s most influential women leaders in science, technology, research, policy and innovation. It takes place alongside the Perspektywy Women in Tech Summit, Europe’s largest gathering of women in STEM, which convenes more than 10,000 participants from over 100 countries.
