Weekly European Agenda 15/06/2026

This week, the European Parliament will meet in plenary to discuss, among other priorities, artificial intelligence, digital sovereignty, EU relations with Türkiye, preparations for the June European Council, and the security of medicine supply. On Monday, EU foreign ministers will meet in the Foreign Affairs Council to exchange views on Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, and EU–China relations. On Tuesday, health ministers will meet in the Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council to address biotechnology, genetically modified micro-organisms, medical devices, and Europe’s pharmaceutical resilience. The General Affairs Council will also continue preparations for the June European Council and examine the Multiannual Financial Framework 2028–2034. EU Commissioners will gather in Strasbourg to present the 2025 Annual Management and Performance Report and a communication in response to the European Citizens’ Initiative “Stop Destroying Videogames”.

European Parliament

On Monday, MEPs will discuss the simplification of the implementation of harmonised rules on artificial intelligence. On Tuesday, they will debate Europe’s digital sovereignty and resilience, alongside the 2025 Commission report on Türkiye. On Wednesday, they will prepare for the European Council meeting of 18–19 June 2026 and discuss transnational governance on water in the interests of conflict prevention and peace. On Thursday, they will vote on the implementation of the Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive and the risks related to the security of medicine supply.

Council of Ministers

On Monday, EU foreign ministers will meet in the Foreign Affairs Council to exchange views on Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, following a discussion with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha. They will also address the situation in the Middle East, including developments in Iran, Lebanon, Gaza and the West Bank, and take stock of EU–China relations in the current geopolitical context. In the margins of the meeting, High Representative Kaja Kallas will co-chair the 11th EU–Egypt Association Council. On Tuesday, health ministers will focus on key health policy and legislative files, including genetically modified micro-organisms, biotechnology and biomanufacturing in health, and the simplification of rules for medical and in vitro diagnostic devices. The General Affairs Council will also continue preparations for the June European Council, examine the Multiannual Financial Framework 2028–2034, and review the state of play of the Article 7 procedure concerning Hungary.

European Commission and High Representative

On Monday, High Representative Vice-President Kaja Kallas will chair the Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Luxembourg. On Tuesday, Commissioner Costas Kadis will participate in the 11th Our Ocean Conference in Mombasa. On Thursday, Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis will participate in the European Parliament Plenary Session in Strasbourg.
