Weekly European Agenda 13/07/2026

This week, European Parliament committees will meet to discuss, among other priorities, public health, international trade, security and defence, and files linked to the EU budget and future funding programmes. On Monday, agriculture and fisheries ministers will discuss the Irish Presidency’s sectoral priorities, while foreign affairs ministers will address Ukraine, the Middle East, the Black Sea and EU-UN relations. On Tuesday, ministers responsible for European affairs will examine simplification, the rule of law dialogue, the EU’s long-term budget for 2028–2034 and the “One Europe, One Market” roadmap. Later in the week, the Irish Presidency will host informal meetings on the European Peace Facility and justice and home affairs.

European Parliament

On Monday, SANT will discuss the security of supply of critical medicines, youth mental health in the digital era, and the health priorities of the Irish Presidency, while also exchanging views with the European Medicines Agency. On Tuesday, INTA will examine EU-China and EU-US trade relations, export controls of dual-use items, global overcapacity in the steel market, and the Irish Presidency’s priorities for international trade policy. On Wednesday, SEDE will focus on hybrid warfare, EU security and defence challenges, Russian provocations against the Baltic States, the outcome of the NATO Summit in Ankara, and the future role of EU defence capabilities.

Council of Ministers

On Monday, agriculture and fisheries ministers meeting in the Agriculture and Fisheries Council (AGRIFISH) will discuss the Irish Presidency’s priorities for the sector, with a focus on food security, competitiveness, simplification, sustainability and generational renewal. Ministers will also exchange views on the Commission’s livestock strategy and protein plan, the role of women in agriculture, and trade-related agricultural issues. Also on Monday, foreign affairs ministers meeting in the Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) will address Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, the EU’s strategic approach to the Black Sea, and EU-UN relations ahead of the UN General Assembly high-level week. On Tuesday, ministers responsible for European affairs meeting in the General Affairs Council (GAC) will examine the Irish Presidency’s priorities, simplification, the rule of law dialogue, the handling of the EU’s long-term budget for 2028–2034, and the “One Europe, One Market” roadmap.

European Commission and High Representative

On Monday, High Representative Vice-President Kaja Kallas will meet Jasem Mohamed AlBudaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, in Brussels, while Commissioner Dubravka Šuica will host the Palestine Donor Group. On Wednesday, Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič will participate in the EU-India Trade and Technology Council, highlighting the EU’s engagement on trade and technology cooperation. On Thursday, Commissioner Magnus Brunner will participate in the informal Justice and Home Affairs Council in Dublin.
