Weekly European Agenda 07/09/2026

This week, European Parliament committees will discuss, among other priorities, biotechnology, housing, EU-China relations, enlargement, innovation, energy and industry. On Monday, High Representative Vice-President Kaja Kallas will launch a High-Level Group on European Defence, while the Irish Presidency will host an informal meeting of EU Agriculture Ministers focused on sustainable, competitive and resilient livestock farming and food production. On Wednesday, President Ursula von der Leyen will exchange views with the European Parliament’s Conference of Presidents. On Friday, Commissioner Christophe Hansen will meet representatives of the French agricultural sector.

European Parliament

On Monday, the Committee on Legal Affairs (JURI) will discuss the Irish Presidency’s priorities and vote on the European Biotech Act, the 2027 EU budget and the EU strategy to strengthen the international justice system. Also on Monday, the Committee on Budgetary Control (CONT), Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) and Subcommittee on Tax Matters (FISC) will hold a joint hearing on VAT and customs fraud. On Wednesday, the Special Committee on the Housing Crisis in the European Union (HOUS) will hear a presentation of the Affordable Housing Act. On Thursday, the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) will focus on EU-China relations, the Pact for the Mediterranean and enlargement, while the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) will discuss innovation, energy and industry.

European Commission and High Representative

On Monday, High Representative Vice-President Kaja Kallas will launch the High-Level Group on European Defence in Brussels. On Wednesday, President Ursula von der Leyen will participate in an exchange of views with the European Parliament’s Conference of Presidents in Brussels. On Friday, Commissioner Christophe Hansen will meet members of the Conseil de l’Agriculture Française in Metz.
