This week, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) will gather in Strasbourg for plenary debates and votes on several issues, including climate policy, defence readiness, the European Democracy Shield and the EU’s 2027 budget. From Monday to Tuesday, ministers responsible for cohesion policy will meet in Dublin to discuss the future design and funding of EU Cohesion Policy, while CODEV-PI delegates will exchange views on development cooperation and inclusive economic growth. On Tuesday, EU Commissioners will meet in Strasbourg to discuss child safety online and the fair labour mobility package. On Wednesday, President Ursula von der Leyen will deliver the 2026 State of the Union address at the European Parliament. On Friday, EU economy and finance ministers and central bank governors will gather in Dublin to discuss macroeconomic developments, financial stability and strategic economic priorities.
European Parliament
On Monday, MEPs will debate the extension of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, the Temporary Decarbonisation Fund and changes to the EU Emissions Trading System. On Tuesday, they will focus on defence readiness, hybrid warfare and the European Democracy Shield, while also voting on the EU Youth Strategy and a health workforce crisis plan. On Wednesday, Parliament will hold the State of the Union debate and discuss the Council’s position on the 2027 EU budget. On Thursday, MEPs will vote on the Union Customs Code, the Common Fisheries Policy and the impact of social media on young people.
European Commission and High Representative
On Monday, President Ursula von der Leyen will meet European Parliament President Roberta Metsola in Strasbourg. On Tuesday, EU Commissioners will gather in Strasbourg to discuss child safety online and the fair labour mobility package. On Wednesday, President von der Leyen will deliver the 2026 State of the Union address at the European Parliament. On Friday, Commissioner Maria Luís Albuquerque will participate in the Eurogroup and informal ECOFIN meeting in Dublin.
