Europe United: A Citizens’ Celebration
On 09 May 2025, Europe day, citizens will gather at the Grand Place, in the heart of Brussels, for a powerful celebration of European values of peace, democracy, solidarity and unity. The event will gather citizens, policy-makers, artists, activists, students, who will come together and reflect on what connects us as Europeans. Organised by the European Movement International and the City of Brussels, the celebration comes at a time when our shared values matter more than ever. The first half of the evening will feature a public discussion in the courtyard of City Hall, where participants will be able to share their views with policy-makers and shareholders. In the second half, the iconic Grand Place will come alive with a live DJ set and a light show in the colours of the EU flag.

This event, organised by the EESC’s Permanent Group on Immigration and Integration, aims to explore policies, strategies and best practices for enhancing labour market integration of vulnerable migrants. By including perspectives from institutional stakeholders, think thanks, social partners and civil society organisations we will examine how to ensure that vulnerable groups of migrants can contribute meaningfully to the workforce while securing their dignified livelihoods.

Strengthening the protection for human rights defenders
European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) will speak at the OSCE Supplementary Human Dimension Meeting in Vienna. The meeting will be on Protecting Civic Space – the Role of Human Rights Defenders and Freedom of Peaceful Assembly. FRA will contribute with its findings on how to safeguard civic space based on its work on civic space and on human rights defenders.
