Policy communication and citizen engagement on EU priorities
The European Movement International will host the second online event in the context of our ‘European Mosaic’ project. The session will focus on how to translate complex EU policies into clear, engaging narratives that connect with citizens and encourage active participation. Participants will explore how to use storytelling and framing to make EU priorities more accessible, as well as strategies to reach and mobilise diverse audiences. The workshop aims to strengthen public understanding of EU policies and empower participants to engage more effectively in democratic conversations. Sign up here to join the discussion.

Migration will be a central item on the agenda, including the implementation of the EU Migration and Asylum Pact and developments related to the reformed Eurodac system. Ministers will also discuss external migration cooperation, with a particular focus on engagement with Somalia. Over lunch, they will exchange views on the future legal status of displaced persons from Ukraine, as part of ongoing EU support measures for those affected by the war. In the afternoon, discussions will turn to security challenges in a rapidly evolving geopolitical context, including developments in the Middle East and the conflict involving Iran. Ministers will review progress under the EMPACT framework for tackling serious and organised crime and contribute to shaping the upcoming EU Internal Security Strategy. The Council is also expected to approve the EU Drugs Strategy implementation framework, including a new action plan against drug trafficking.

The European Economic and Social Committee, in partnership with the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Environment, will organise an EU Green Week partner event titled “Living in peace with nature to drive economic prosperity: the EU dimension” in Brussels. The conference will bring together policymakers, experts, and stakeholders to discuss how nature can support Europe’s economic prosperity and citizens’ quality of life. The event will include two roundtables and interactive exchanges on nature-positive solutions, focusing on sustainable agriculture and forestry, soil health innovation, nature-based solutions, urban greening, and opportunities to revitalise rural areas and address depopulation. It will highlight how investing in nature can deliver both environmental and economic benefits for a more sustainable and resilient Europe.

One Europe, One Market: from strategy to delivery
The EESC, together with the Committee of the Regions and the European Parliament, will organise a half-day event in Brussels titled “One Europe, One Market: from strategy to delivery.” The conference will bring together EU institutions, civil society stakeholders, and experts to discuss how to translate Single Market strategy into concrete actions that benefit citizens and businesses. The programme will feature three panels focusing on key priorities: strengthening the functioning of the Single Market through product safety, market surveillance, fair e-commerce, and standards; using public procurement as a driver of sustainability, circularity, and innovation; and enhancing the Digital Single Market by reducing administrative burdens and improving support for SMEs. The discussions will explore how to make the Single Market more coherent, competitive, and future-ready.

3rd EU-Albania Civil Society Joint Consultative Committee meeting
The EESC will hold the 3rd EU–Albania Civil Society Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) meeting in Tirana. The meeting will bring together representatives of organised civil society and social partners from Albania and the European Union to exchange views on Albania’s EU accession process and the role of civil society in supporting reforms under the EU Growth Plan for the Western Balkans. Discussions will focus on the fundamentals of the accession process and implementation of the reform agenda, Albania’s preparations for integration into the EU Single Market with an emphasis on consumer protection, and the broader state of civil society and social dialogue in the country. Participants will also adopt a joint declaration addressed to national authorities and EU institutions.

Mainstreaming water resilience in the EU budget
The EESC will host a public online debate titled “Mainstreaming water resilience in the EU budget”. The event will explore how water resilience can be integrated as a strategic priority across EU spending programmes and policies, with a focus on strengthening sustainability, preparedness, and long-term resilience. The discussion will highlight how EU investments can better support innovation, infrastructure, efficiency, and nature-based solutions to address challenges such as water scarcity, flooding, and pollution. It will also examine priorities for the next Multiannual Financial Framework and the role of budgeting in supporting resilient communities and competitive industries.

Strong regions for safe Europe. Resilience and growth of EU Eastern border regions
The EESC will hold a public debate titled “Strong regions for a safe Europe: Resilience and growth of EU Eastern border regions”, taking place online. The event will address the key challenges facing EU eastern border regions, including demographic decline, infrastructure gaps, lower investment, and rising geopolitical pressures linked to Russia’s war against Ukraine.  The debate will focus on the European Commission’s 2026 Communication on eastern border regions and the need for stronger cohesion policy, improved connectivity, and better support for SMEs. It will also stress the importance of public services, talent retention, and stronger involvement of local and civil society actors in EU decision-making.

Monday 01 June 

9th NAT Commission meeting
The 9th NAT Commission meeting of the European Committee of the Regions will take place in Brussels. Members will discuss and adopt three opinions on key EU policy areas: agricultural products and the EU School scheme, the EU Bioeconomy Strategy, and the EU Cardiovascular Health Plan (“Safe Hearts Plan”). In addition, the agenda will include exchanges of views on the future of the rice sector in Europe and integrated wildfire risk management, addressing both economic resilience and increasing environmental and climate challenges across the EU.

Tuesday 02 June

From AI Policy to Practice: Implementing AI in Municipalities and Regions
The CoR is organising an EU Local Dialogue “From AI Policy to Practice: Implementing AI in Municipalities and Regions”, which will take place in Lidingö. The event will bring together policymakers, public officials, researchers and practitioners to explore how Artificial Intelligence can be effectively implemented at local and regional level, bridging EU policy frameworks with on-the-ground realities. The discussion will focus on practical use cases of AI in public services, as well as the opportunities and risks associated with its deployment in municipalities and regions. Through keynote speeches and a panel discussion, participants will share experiences and reflect on how to ensure the responsible, efficient and ethical use of AI in public administration.

The 22nd Green Deal Going Local Working Group meeting will take place in Sofia, as part of the Green Transition Forum. The meeting will bring together participants to discuss the role of cities and regions in advancing the European Green Deal and accelerating the transition towards a sustainable energy system. The agenda includes an in camera discussion on the Green Deal Going Local roadmap, followed by a public session focusing on how local and regional authorities can support long-term energy transition, with particular emphasis on local energy production and its contribution to climate objectives.

Turn on the value, switch off the waste – EWWR 2025 Awards Ceremony
The European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) 2025 Awards Ceremony will take place in Brussels under the motto “Turn on the value, switch off the waste”. The event will bring together local authorities, organisations, businesses, educators and citizens to celebrate the most impactful initiatives on waste prevention, reuse, recycling and circular economy practices across Europe. The programme will showcase the EWWR 2025 finalist actions and feature discussions on how communication, education and community engagement can promote more sustainable behaviours and reduce waste generation. The event will conclude with the EWWR 2025 Awards Ceremony, recognising outstanding initiatives contributing to Europe’s transition towards a more circular, resource-efficient and socially inclusive economy.

The enabling role of sport to achieve EU objectives and future support via the Multi-annual Financial framework 2028-2034
The Committee of the Regions, together with the European Olympic Committees EU Office, will organise a high-level event in Brussels dedicated to exploring the enabling role of sport in achieving key EU objectives and its future support under the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) 2028–2034. The event will showcase concrete local and regional examples highlighting how sport and grassroots organisations contribute to social cohesion, inclusion, territorial development, economic growth and labour market integration. It will also underline the important role of volunteers and community-based sport initiatives in fostering a sense of belonging and teamwork. Participants will discuss with policymakers how this role can be better recognised and supported in future EU funding instruments in the context of the ongoing MFF negotiations.

Informal meeting of Culture ministers
The Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU will host the Informal Meeting of EU Ministers of Culture in Lefkosia. The meeting will bring together EU culture ministers to discuss two key themes: cultural rights and the illicit trafficking of cultural goods. Discussions will focus on safeguarding culture as a democratic public good, including cultural rights in the digital age and the impact of Artificial Intelligence on culture and creativity. Ministers will also address the challenges posed by armed conflict and explore legislative approaches to combat the illicit trafficking of cultural goods.

Thursday 04 June – Friday 05 June 

Informal meeting of ministers responsible for cohesion policy
The Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU will host the Informal Meeting of Ministers responsible for Cohesion Policy in Lefkosia. EU ministers responsible for Cohesion Policy, representatives of EU institutions, and ministers from the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries will gather to discuss two key themes: the “Right to Stay” and the specific challenges faced by island regions. Ministers will exchange views on how Cohesion Policy can foster growth, employment and opportunities across Europe, while also contributing to the future EU Strategy for islands. They will also visit a Cohesion Policy co-funded project in the old city of Lefkosia, followed by an official dinner.
