Capital markets integration and efficient supervision
The European Commission has published a package to eliminate barriers to integration of asset management, trading and post-trading services, and improve supervision, in order to further integrate capital markets. The EESC has insisted in multiple occasions in the urgency of completing a single market for capital, a more prominent role of ESMA and reforms in the supervisory framework. This debate will bring representatives from public actors and civil society to discuss on their views on the Commission proposal and how to make it fit for purpose.

Bulgaria, welcome to the euro area! – Embracing the common currency in a changing world
On 1 January 2026, Bulgaria becomes the newest members of the euro area following a long process of convergence. To celebrate this milestone in the history of Bulgaria and of the euro area, the Section for Economic and Monetary Union and Economic and Social Cohesion (ECO) of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) will organise a public debate to discuss Bulgaria’s road to the euro, its prospects as part of the common currency area, and the outlook for the euro area in a world of geopolitical challenges, inflationary pressures and economic uncertainties.

7th meeting of the SEDEC commission – VIII mandate
During the meeting decisions will be taken on the appointment of Rapporteur(s)and the Work Programme for 2026 of the SEDEC commission. The agenda also includes: SEDEC Youth Dialogue with Commissioner Micallef on Cyberbullying, the Culture Compass, youth-related aspects of Erasmus+ and culture-related aspects of AgoraEU.

Stakeholder consultation – Opinion on the European Commission proposal for a “Regulation establishing Global Europe”
The objective of the stakeholder consultation is to gather relevant input and perspectives on the Global Europe Regulation and the local and regional dimension in view of the preparation of the CoR’s opinion, to be adopted at the CoR Plenary on 1-2 July 2026.

Tuesday 03 February 

Online stakeholder consultation on the CoR opinion on the Union Support for Internal Security (2028-2034)
On 16 July 2025, the European Commission unveiled its proposal for the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) 2028–2034, a nearly 2 trillion EUR budget designed to reinforce EU sovereignty, competitiveness, and resilience. Within this package, three complementary funding instruments define the Home Affairs funding support architecture: support for asylum, migration, and integration; support for Schengen, border management, and visa policy; and the new instrument of support for internal security for 2028 – 2034. Stakeholders and interested parties are invited to an online stakeholder consultation to express their views and opinions.

7th Meeting of the ENVE commission
Members will adopt a draft opinion on noise pollution, debate green priorities with the Cyprus Presidency, and exchange views on global climate diplomacy, environmental implementation, and Grids.

7th NAT commission meeting
The 7th NAT commission meeting will feature the adoption of the opinions on EU stockpiling strategy, Medical Countermeasures Strategy and Future of the Rural Development 2028. There will also be an exchange of views on some other important ongoing opinions.

Members will vote on opinions on the National and Regional Partnership Plans (NRPP) Fund Regulation, ERDF, Performance Framework Regulation, as well as the 2026 COTER and ECBP Work Programmes.

Monday 02 February – Tuesday 03 February

Informal meeting of Competitiveness (COMPET) ministers – Internal Market and Industry
This meeting will bring together EU ministers, ministers of European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries and the European Commission, and will provide a forum for an exchange of views on promoting economic resilience, strategic autonomy and sustainable and inclusive growth, while safeguarding consumers and reinforcing the Single Market. Delegates will take part in a guided tour of Lefkosia, followed by a gala dinner. Moreover, ministers will focus on strengthening the European Defence Technological and Industrial Base, addressing persistent structural challenges, such as insufficient scale, and underlining the need for closer integration of defence and industrial policies within a coherent strategic framework. Lastly, they will review the Competitiveness Compass one year after its launch, taking stock of progress, identifying key challenges and exploring ways to accelerate implementation and enhance effectiveness.

Thursday 05 – Friday 06 February

Informal Meeting of Environment and Climate Ministers (ENVI)
The Informal Council will focus on how legislation and finance can better align European climate and water resilience policies. Discussions will centre on the effective implementation of the European Water Resilience Strategy, the development of the new European Climate Adaptation Plan, and the integration of water resilience across key sectors such as agriculture, tourism, energy and climate legislation, ensuring coherence and complementarity across EU policies. Further, Ministers will have the opportunity to reflect on the European Union’s experience in international climate negotiations, drawing lessons from COP30. Ministers will exchange views on how the EU can strengthen its effectiveness in global climate processes, enhance internal coordination, and better translate political ambition into tangible outcomes on the ground.
