European Council 


Thursday 23 April – Friday 24 April 

Informal meeting of heads of state or government
EU leaders will meet informally in Lefkosia and Agia Napa, Cyprus, to discuss the evolving geopolitical situation, in particular developments in Iran and the Middle East, including the EU’s role in de-escalation, energy impacts, and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Leaders will also exchange views on the EU’s long-term budget for 2028–2034 (MFF), notably on financing priorities, new own resources, and competitiveness. In addition, they will hear from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy via videoconference on the latest developments in Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.

Council of Ministers 


Tuesday 21 April 

Foreign Affairs Council
The next Foreign Affairs Council will be held in Luxembourg, chaired by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas. EU foreign affairs ministers will first discuss Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, following an informal exchange with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha via videoconference. Ministers will also address the situation in the Middle East in light of recent developments related to the conflict involving Iran and its wider regional implications. In addition, the Council will exchange views on the South Caucasus, with a focus on Armenia-Azerbaijan relations ahead of the upcoming European Political Community summit in Yerevan, as well as the situation in Georgia. Finally, ministers will discuss the ongoing crisis in Sudan, marking the third anniversary of the start of the conflict.

Monday 20 April 

1st Meeting of the EU-Chile Domestic Consultative Group
The inaugural meeting of the EU–Chile Domestic Consultative Group (DCG) will take place in Brussels. The group will establish its structure and formally launch its work under the new Advanced Framework Agreement. Participants will exchange views with representatives from the European External Action Service (EEAS) and DG Trade on the DCG’s mandate and role, and will discuss priorities for the 2025–2028 term. The meeting will also confirm governance arrangements, pending the formal establishment of the Chilean counterpart group.

Tuesday 21 April 

Conference : 28th Regime / EU’s Competitiveness Agenda for Workers
This conference will take place in Brussels and will be co-organised by the EESC Workers’ Group and ETUC within the “Workers’ Voice for more democratic participation” framework. The event will address the proposed 28th company law regime and its implications for workers’ rights, as well as the EU competitiveness agenda for workers, including the Quality Jobs Roadmap, investment needs, and the future of quality employment in Europe.

Wednesday 22 April 

Island of resilience – Cyprus՚ perspective on climate, sustainability and food security
This conference will take place in Larnaca, Cyprus, under the patronage of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU. It will be organised by the Civil Society Organisations’ Group of the EESC. The event will focus on climate resilience, water scarcity, and sustainable food systems, exploring the challenges faced by Cyprus as an island state and the broader lessons for the EU. Policymakers, civil society actors, and sector experts will exchange views on sustainable resource management, food security, and environmental protection.

Committee of the Regions 


Monday 20 April 

8th NAT commission meeting
The 8th NAT Commission meeting of the CoR will take place in Brussels. Members will discuss AgriFood trade agreements and will adopt key opinions on agriculture, fisheries, consumer policy, civil protection, and generational renewal in rural areas. On the first day, members will debate and adopt the opinion on the future Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and will also hold an exchange on AgriFood trade in a changing global context, including trade agreements, tariffs, and current challenges facing the sector.

Sport, Childhood and Inclusion: Racing’s Victoria Project and the transformative power of football in the community
This  EU conference will take place in Brussels and will highlight the contribution of Racing Santander’s Proyecto Victoria to child protection in sport and to the development of safer, more inclusive and values-driven communities. The event will bring together EU institutions, regional authorities and representatives of Real Racing Club de Santander to exchange on how sport can promote inclusion, well-being and European values, while strengthening child safeguarding practices and supporting policy development in this field.

8th NAT commission meeting
The 8th NAT Commission meeting of the CoR will take place in Brussels. Members will discuss AgriFood trade agreements and will adopt key opinions on agriculture, fisheries, consumer policy, civil protection, and generational renewal in rural areas. On the second day, members will debate and adopt opinions on the Consumer Agenda 2025–2030 and its action plan for consumers in the Single Market, the Common Fisheries Policy and EU maritime and aquaculture policy, the Union Civil Protection Mechanism, and the Strategy for generational renewal in agriculture. A presentation will also take place on the promotion of agricultural products and the 2026 calls for proposals by DG AGRI.

Cohesion Policy after 2027 – a new approach to regional development
This conference will be organised by the CoR and will take place in Brussels, bringing together key policymakers and regional leaders to discuss the future of EU cohesion policy and its role in strengthening resilience, competitiveness, and balanced territorial development. The event will provide a platform to exchange views on regional resilience, with a particular focus on the role of eastern border regions in ensuring security, stability, cooperation, and sustainable growth across the European Union.

Online conference: SDGs in EU regions and cities
The webinar on SDGs in EU regions and cities will take place online and will be hostedin Brussels. Organised by the CoR and Austrian regions, the event will highlight the relevance of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at regional and local level as a framework for competitiveness and well-being. With only four years left until 2030, the conference will showcase how EU regions and cities continue to implement the SDGs on the ground, with a particular focus on Austria’s regional approaches, including Voluntary Local Reviews and innovative sustainability policies.

Operational programmes in the fruit and vegetable sector in the context of the 2028-2034 MFF and the revision of the CMO
This EU Local Dialogue will take place in Rimini (Italy) as part of MACFRUT 2026 and will bring together stakeholders from the fruit and vegetable supply chain to discuss the future of the sector. The event will serve as an open consultation feeding into the drafting of the CoR opinion and will focus on the future of the sector in the context of the next Multiannual Financial Framework, the Common Agricultural Policy, and the revision of the Common Market Organisation (CMO) Regulation.

8th ENVE Commission meeting
The 8th meeting of the ENVE Commission will take place in Brussels. Members will adopt two key opinions on the EU’s global climate and energy vision and on integrating environmental priorities into the EU budget. The meeting will also feature a debate on simplifying administrative burdens in environmental legislation, as well as discussions on gender and governance in climate and energy policies. Participants will additionally receive updates via the Green Deal Helpdesk.

EU-Citizen’s dialogue: Youth and Agriculture
The EU Local Dialogue “Youth and Agriculture”, will take place in Klosterneuburg, Austria. The event will bring together students, policymakers, and agricultural experts to discuss the growing role of young people in shaping the future of farming. Through a field visit and an interactive dialogue, participants will explore innovative, sustainable approaches to agriculture and the opportunities available to youth across the agri-food sector. The initiative will aim to inspire the next generation to contribute to resilient rural communities and future-proof food systems.

Thursday 23 April

Stakeholders consultation for the CoR opinion “Culture Compass for Europe”
A stakeholders consultation on the CoR opinion “Culture Compass for Europe” will take place in Brussels. The meeting will gather local and regional representatives to exchange views on the European Commission’s proposal. It will include an introduction followed by an open discussion with stakeholders, contributing to the upcoming CoR opinion, which is expected to be adopted later in 2026.

8th ECON Commission meeting
The 8th meeting of the ECON Commission will take place in Brussels. Members will discuss key economic and industrial priorities, including European Business Wallets, the defence industry, cybersecurity, digital networks, and the Industrial Accelerator Act. The agenda will also include exchanges of views with rapporteurs and experts, contributing to ongoing EU policy development on digital transformation, industry, and the single market.

Stakeholders’ consultation on the opinion “The common market organisation in agricultural products and EU school scheme
This stakeholders’ consultation will take place in Brussels. The meeting will gather stakeholders to discuss recent European Commission proposals on the EU school scheme and agricultural market rules. The session will provide an opportunity to exchange views on key issues such as support for producers, food education, supply chains, and crisis management, contributing to the preparation of the CoR opinion.

Informal video conference of transport ministers
The Cypriot Presidency of the EU is hosting an informal video conference of EU transport ministers. Ministers will discuss the impact of recent geopolitical developments in the Middle East on the EU’s transport system and transport sector.

European Ombudsman


Tuesday 21 April 

Speaker at General Assembly AASC (Assembly of Agencies Staff Committees)
At the General Assembly of the AASC (Assembly of Agencies’ Staff Committees), the European Ombudsman will be a featured speaker. The intervention will take place during Session 2, titled “Institutional Ethics: Insights from the European Ombudsman.” An open discussion will follow, where participants will be able to ask questions and offer interventions.

Wednesday 22 April

Annual Press Conference 2026
The Annual Press Conference of the European Ombudsman will take place in Brussels. During the event, Ombudswoman Teresa Anjinho will present and discuss the results of her own-initiative inquiry into how EU agencies handle revolving door cases, as well as the opening of a new own-initiative inquiry. She will also present the European Ombudsman Annual Report 2025. The conference will conclude with a Q&A session.
