Commissioner Janusz Wojciechowski in Cyprus will meet with Dr Maria Panayiotou, Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment of Cyprus.

von der Leyen meets with Prime Minister Robert Golob
President Ursula von der Leyen will be in Slovenia. Together with Prime Minister Robert Golob, she’ll visit the reconstruction of the August 2023 flooded areas, and deliver a keynote speech at the Bled Strategic Forum.

Reynders participates in the Informal Conference of the Ministers of Justice of the Council of Europe
Commissioner Didier Reynders will be in Vilnius to participate in the Informal Conference of the Ministers of Justice of the Council of Europe.

Friday 6 September

Hahn meets with Minister for Foreign Affairs of Austria
Commissioner Johannes Hahn will meet with Alexander Schallenberg, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Austria.

Reforms for a more resilient economy for all: the new EU legislature
This public debate will feature Fabian Zuleeg, Chief Executive and Chief Economist, European Policy Centre (EPC). The European elections have redefined the political landscape. The new majorities in the European Parliament and the composition of the new Commission are essential elements for predicting what economic policies will look like at European level, and which are the implications for the necessary reforms that the EU needs in order to achieve a more resilient economy for all.

ECON Commission – Hybrid Stakeholder Consultations
The ECON Commission will organise hybrid Stakeholder Consultations on the following opinions: Opinion on the Screening of foreign investments in the EU, Opinion on The Future of the Single Market and the EU’s Competitiveness, Opinion on Challenges and opportunities of Artificial Intelligence in the public sector: defining the role of regional and local authorities, and Opinion on Supporting SMEs in regional value chains – fostering the proximity economy.

Hungarian Presidency


Monday 2 – Tuesday 3 September 

Informal meeting of the General Affairs Council
The informal meeting of the GAC will be held in Budapest. Ministers will discuss boosting the EU’s competitiveness and tackling demographic challenges. A plenary session will examine the possibilities of enhancing competitiveness and rule of law through better law-making, followed by breakout sessions on the different aspects of competitiveness. Ministers will discuss demographic challenges during their working lunch.

Thursday 5 – Friday 6 September 

Informal Meeting of the EU Ministers in charge of Cohesion Policy
The meeting will be held in Budapest. The aim of the meeting is to discuss how Cohesion Policy can take its part in managing demographic challenges.
