Next steps for SDGs after HLPF 2023
Sustainable Development Observatory of the EESC will host a public event with the aim to follow up on the discussions and outcomes of this year’s High-Level Political Forum and prepare for the upcoming SDG Summit which will be held one week later in New York. The participants will assess the EU’s sustainable development journey, global and national perspectives on sustainable development, Spanish Presidency agenda, actions required to accelerate SDGs implementation, and the role of civil society in the process.

Stakeholder consultation on the EU Cyber Solidarity Act and Digital resilience
The higher uptake of digital technologies increas​es exposure to cyber security incidents and their potential impact is the subject matter of the recent Commission proposal for an EU Cyber Solidarity Act (COM(2023) 209). This proposal is of significant relevance for local and regional authorities, who need to seek a well-balanced level of cybersecurity in order to prevent cyber-incidents from happening, to protect against them and to recover from damages potentially incurred. The feedback collected during the consultation will be included in the rapporteur’s Opinion on the EU Cyber Solidarity Act and Digital resilience.

Informal ministerial meeting on economic and financial affairs
The informal ministerial meeting on EU Economic and Financial Affairs takes place in Santiago de Compostela from 15-16 September. The working sessions focus on advancing strategic autonomy and strengthening international economic cooperation, especially with Latin America. In the framework of Ecofin, a joint meeting with ministers and international financial institutions from the Latin American and Caribbean region will be held for the first time, organised in collaboration with CAF-Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean. These meetings will revolve around a common theme: “Towards a Global Green and Digital Economy”.

Justice Ministers’ informal conference “On the path to justice for Ukraine”
The Council of Europe Ministers of Justice will meet at an informal conference entitled “On the Path to Justice for Ukraine: Advancing Accountability, Supporting the Resilience of its Justice System and Reuniting Children with their Families.” The ministers will deliberate support for the Ukrainian justice system and help to provide an international response to the aggression by the Russian Federation and its consequences.
