Monday 12 – Tuesday 13 June 

Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council
Agenda highlights include platform workers, where ministers will meet with the goal of agreeing on the Council’s position on the platform work directive. The European Semester Spring Package will also be discussed, focusing especially on country-specific recommendations. Equality bodies and health and safety at work: limit values for lead are also topics up for discussion on Monday 12 June. On Tuesday, 13 June, agenda highlights include antimicrobial resistance and European Medicines Agency (EMA) where the Council will try to seek a general approach on the regulation on fees and charges payable to the EMA.

Wednesday 14- Thursday 15 June

Supporting the future of Syria and the region – Brussels seventh Conference
The European Union will be hosting the seventh Brussels conference on ‘Supporting the future of Syria and the region’ on 14-15 June 2023. The Brussels Conferences have the twofold objective of mobilising humanitarian and financial aid for the Syrian people – those living in Syria and also in neighbouring countries – and for the host communities in the wider region, while also rallying the international community in support of a comprehensive and credible political solution to the Syrian conflict, in line with UN Security Council resolution 2254.

Friday 16 June 

Economic and Financial Affairs Council
Agenda highlights include EU VAT in the Digital Age Package, including a policy debate on the legislative package. The Retail Investment Package will also be discussed, with an initial exchange of views and reactions. The Presidency will present the state of play on current legislative proposals in the field of financial services, and there will also be an economic governance review if the Council has the opportunity. Other highlights include recovery and resilience facility; European Semester; Economic and financial impact of Russia’s aggression against Ukaine; International meetings; Business taxation: Code of Conduct Group; report to the European Council on tax issues.

College meeting
College of commissioners will meet to present and discuss a new social economy package, including a Council Recommendation on developing social economy framework conditions and a legislative initiative on cross-border activities of associations. They are also expected to discuss a regulation on environmental, social and governance rating.

Monday 12 June 

Citizens can defeat disinformation
The EESC is working on a project on disinformation to be implemented with the help of civil society. This project consists of holding events and information campaigns in the Member States. Bulgaria will host the pilot edition, and the EESC is co-hosting the first event of three total in collaboration with the Bulgarian Economic and Social Council. It will take place in Sofia.

The role of Youth in Rural Development
The EESC will host a hybrid public hearing to gather the view of youth representatives, rural development experts and various stakeholders on how to promote sustainable and inclusive rural development that benefits young people and rural communities as a whole.

Wednesday 14 June – Thursday 15 June 

579th Plenary session
There will be a debate on the electricity market reform as well as a debate on equal treatment of young people in the labour market. Vice President of the European Commission, Margaritis Schinas will take part on Thursday’s debate.

Thursday 15 June 

Knowledge Exchange Platform (KEP 2.0) seminar – Open Science for higher quality, more efficient and impactful research – Opportunities for regions & cities
CoR and the European Commission are hosting a seminar organised in the framework of their Knowledge Exchange Platform. The seminar will start with an introduction and a keynote speech with the topic: “Open Science – to build the future of Europe”, followed to session 1: 1: ‘Open Science – state of play (relevance for regions and cities)’, and session 2: : “Learning from cities’ and regions’ innovative practices – concrete examples”. The sessions will include case studies. The seminar will end with concluding remarks.

Sunday 11 – Tuesday 13 June 

Informal meeting of agriculture ministers
EU agriculture ministers will gather for an informal meeting in Stockholm, with the overall theme of the potential of agriculture to contribute to the green transition. The meeting will allow participants to learn about Swedish agriculture, research and innovation.

Wednesday 14 – Thursday 15 June 

Conference on green cities
In the face of the needed rapid green transition of European cities and communities, this conference highlights the need for links between the green city and initiatives such as the New European Bauhaus and EU Mission: Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities.

ESPON seminar
The EU-funded research programme EPSON will bring together stakeholders for a seminar with the title: “Territorial perspective of green industrialisation”. EPSON develops studies on issues to do with regional development, and with each Presidency of the Council of the EU, a seminar like this is held.

Thursday 15 – Friday 16 June 

Digital Assembly 2023
The Swedish Presidency of the Council of the EU will host the Digital Assembly with the topic being a digital, open and secure Europe. The aim is to ensure that Europe is at the front of technology and develop a competitive digital single market based on a strong focus on cyber security during the Digital Decade.
